Improving connectivity with Canada, Air India will start Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight from September, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently said.
“Delighted to announce the commencement of a thrice weekly Air India flight between Sri Amritsar Sahib and Canada. The Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight will commence on the occasion of World Tourism Day on 27 Sept. 2019,” Puri tweeted.
He said he is glad to help in fulfilling a long pending demand of citizens of Guru Nagri and devotees who travel from North Americas to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiyana Mandir and other holy places.
Puri, who is currently a Rajya Sabha member, had fought the 2019 general elections from the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, but lost to Congress’ Gurjeet Singh Aujla.
Earlier, Air India had announced that it will also resume its additional flight on Delhi-Colombo route from July 15.

With the cancellation of Jet Airways’ New Delhi-Amsterdam-Toronto flight, this flight comes as good news for passengers travelling between these two countries. Air India will, however, be competing on this leg with fellow Star Alliance carrier Air Canada, who operates flights from New Delhi to both Toronto and Vancouver. From a traffic standpoint, the flight originating in Amritsar is strategically important, given that there is a huge Punjabi diaspora in Canada, leading to heavy traffic between the two countries.

This flight is also extremely practical for travellers other than Amritsar, who can board the flight at Air India’s New Delhi hub, after flying in from another city on the airline’s wide domestic network. airindia.com
