Hyatt Hotels Corporation has revealed plans to create a 204-room upper-upscale scheme in the heart of the UK’s capital following the refurbishment of an existing property.

The announcement of this new hotel points to Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s faith in the resilience of the UK market.

A prime location in central London

Hyatt has signed a management agreement with Blackfriars Hotels to develop the 204-key Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars, which is expected to open in July 2022.

“We are thrilled to announce plans for Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars, a hotel that demonstrates Hyatt’s confidence in London’s position as an attractive destination for both business and leisure travellers,” said Felicity Black-Roberts, vice president of development of Europe at Hyatt. “Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars will be an exciting offering to the millions of people who visit the iconic city every year.”

Mohhamed Galadari, the owner of Blackfriars Hotels, added: “We are delighted to be working with Hyatt to open Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars, a cutting-edge hotel for leisure and business travellers.

“We were instantly attracted to the legacy, premium quality, and reputation offered by the Hyatt Regency brand, and its ambition to create a seamless hotel and dining experience for guests. With its smart design features, innovative food and beverage concepts, and a desirable location, Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars is set to become a landmark for generations to come.”

Business and leisure

Located amid the global corporations, businesses, and law firms of this area, the new hotel will be designed with productivity in mind, catering for work as well as play.

The building earmarked for Hyatt Regency’s latest outpost, a grade II-listed former palace, is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment programme. Paying homage to its location, the hotel will respect the history of the site through its modern design.

This revived space will be home to an all-day New York-style bistro and specialty Chinese restaurant, as well as a stylish cocktail bar with a large outdoor space. Additional amenities are to include a fitness centre and meeting space.

The property is conveniently located near the Blackfriars underground station. Several cultural sights, including the South Bank area, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, are also within walking distance.

On opening, Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars will become the 13th Hyatt-affiliated hotel in the UK, and ninth in London alone.
