New Lufthansa Director for India

lufthsana indiaLufthansa today announced the appointment of Mr Wolfgang Will as its new Director India, effective 1 February 2014. Based in Gurgaon, Mr Will shall be responsible for overseeing the airline’s commercial activities in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Mr Will moves to India from Mexico City where he was Director Mexico and Central America. He brings vast cross-functional experience at Lufthansa as well as close working knowledge of international markets, having previously served at the airline’s offices in Austria, Congo and Venezuela.

He succeeds Mr Axel Hilgers, who served as Lufthansa’s Director, India since 2008, overseeing the launch of new aircraft like the B747-8 and several new products in the market. Mr Hilgers moves to Paris as Head of Lufthansa’s ground operations in France.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Wolfgang Will to the Asia-Pacific region to head our established team in India,” said Mr Steffen Harbarth, Vice President Asia & Pacific at Lufthansa. “Having worked for Lufthansa in Latin America and having gained broad experience in various management functions for several years, he has a solid background in the airline industry and the necessary requisites for this prominent position in one of Lufthansa’s most important intercontinental markets.”

“It is an incredible opportunity to serve in one of the most dynamic regions in the world today,” said Mr Wolfgang Will. “It will be my endeavor to sustain and further strengthen Lufthansa’s position in this market.” Lufthansa has been flying to India for over 50 years and has emerged as the Number One European carrier in the region.

Mr Will joined Lufthansa in 1981 and has since held numerous positions in administration, human resources, marketing and sales within the company. Born in Hanau, Germany in 1958, he has lived overseas for over 20 years in the Americas, Europe and Africa.
