While the global pandemic and the threat of COVID 19 looms over our heads, it has been everyone’s goal to build their immunity and keep themselves fit. When it comes to personal health and wellness, strengthening the respiratory system should be our top priority.

While many are resorting to popping vitamins, drinking this easy concoction of a natural ayurvedic kadha has been advised by the Ministry of AYUSH as a measure for self care during COVID-19. As per Google Trends, the interest in Ayurvedic kadhas as a keyword has been growing since March 2020. This kadha can be consumed multiple times a day and doesn’t have any known side effects.

What is kadha?
A kadha is an Ayurvedic drink made of herbs and spices that are boiled in water to extract its benefits. It is a home remedy that can help you fight infections and keep your body internally strong. 

Why is kadha good for you?

Kadha harnesses the goodness of the most basic ingredients found in every Indian household. This is how every ingredient in the kadha help build your immunity:

Cardamom: This spice is packed with antioxidants which makes it a natural remedy for flu as it spreads warmth in the body. Cardamom also keeps the stomach free from indigestion, gas and constipation.

Cinnamon : Since cinnamon is rich in iron and calcium and when had along with the ginger, it helps aid digestion that directly impacts our immunity.

Dried ginger: Ginger is an effective cure for sore throats, colds and coughs. Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger, responsible for much of its medicinal properties. It has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Black pepper: Black pepper, is antibacterial in nature and prevents cold and cough. And since pepper is also high in Vitamin C it acts as a great antibiotic. 

Kadha recipe: 

INGREDIENTS

1 TBSP CARDAMOM

1 TBSP CINNAMON

1 TBSP DRIED GINGER

1 TBSP BLACK PEPPER

3 CUPS WATER

HONEY (OPTIONAL) 

FILL A POT WITH WATER. THEN ADD THE CARDAMOM, CINNAMON, DRIED GINGER AND BLACK PEPPER. BOIL THE CONTENTS IN THE POT UNTIL ABOUT 1 CUP OF THE SOLUTION IS LEFT. AFTER STRAINING THE SOLUTION, IF YOU CHOOSE TO ADD HONEY, ADD IT BEFORE CONSUMING IT WHEN THE LIQUID IS WARM.
