SpiceJet has announced the induction of a Boeing 737, thereby taking its fleet size to 100 aircraft. With this, the Indian low-cost carrier’s fleet now comprises of 68 Boeing 737s, 30 Bombardier Q-400s, and two B737 freighters.
These aircraft are deployed on services to SpiceJet’s 62 destinations out of which 53 are domestic and nine are international . In the last one month, SpiceJet, due to aviation capacity shortfall, is said to have added 23 planes and over a hundred new flights, majority of them connecting the key metros of Mumbai and Delhi.
Furthermore, the airline is also playing a key role in the government’s UDAN scheme — SpiceJet operates 42 daily flights under the regional connectivity project.
Expressing his views on this milestone, Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director SpiceJet said, “Who could have thought that from the brink of closure in December 2014, SpiceJet would have a 100-aircraft fleet in 2019!
