American Airlines will move its London Heathrow operations into the airport’s Terminal 5 on Tuesday, where joint venture partner British Airways is based.

The move will facilitate smoother connections between the four daily Heathrow flights American is currently flying and British Airways’ domestic, European and global networks.

American joint venture partner Iberia also operates out of Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, American was based in Heathrow Terminal 3. Since April, the carrier has operated out of Terminal 2, where it was moved when Heathrow relocated all airlines from terminals 3 and 4 as a Covid-19 pandemic consolidation measure.

It’s not clear how long American will remain in Terminal 5. But A spokeswoman Janine Brown said that as traffic increases, the carrier will seek to reach an agreement with British Airways and Heathrow for a Terminal 5 operational strategy.

American currently flies daily to Heathrow from Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, Chicago O’Hare and New York JFK.
