VFS Global Powers Mozambique’s Digital e-Visa Rollout Across 183 Countries to Boost Tourism and Investment

Mozambique has taken a significant step in modernising its border management and travel facilitation systems with the launch of a digitally enabled e-Visa platform designed to streamline entry procedures for international travellers from 183 countries, including India.

The initiative forms part of the Government of Mozambique’s wider digital transformation and border modernisation agenda, aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening transparency, and enhancing traveller convenience while supporting increased tourism and foreign investment inflows into the country.

A fully digital gateway for global travellers

The new e-Visa system is powered by VFS Global, a global outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions. The platform introduces advanced automation, secure data processing, and cloud-based infrastructure to facilitate end-to-end online visa applications.

Under the system, eligible travellers can apply digitally for Mozambique visas through a unified portal that manages non-judgmental and administrative aspects of visa processing, while final approval authority remains exclusively with the Government of Mozambique.

Officials said the platform is designed to function as a “single digital gateway” for international mobility, reinforcing Mozambique’s ambition to position itself as a more accessible destination for tourism, business, and investment.

Wide range of visa categories under a single system

The e-Visa platform supports multiple travel categories, consolidating previously fragmented processes into a streamlined digital structure. These include:

  • Tourist visas
  • Business visas
  • Crew transhipment visas
  • Sports and cultural visas
  • Humanitarian assistance visas
  • Oil and gas sector visas

The system accommodates both short-term travel authorisations and long-term visas of up to two years, offering flexibility for different traveller profiles under one integrated framework.

Supporting Mozambique’s tourism and investment ambitions

The digital transformation of visa services is expected to play a strategic role in advancing Mozambique’s tourism objectives by reducing administrative barriers and improving global accessibility.

By simplifying entry procedures, the government aims to attract higher volumes of international tourists, business travellers, and investors, particularly in key sectors such as hospitality, energy, and infrastructure development.

The platform is also expected to be integrated with broader tourism promotion initiatives, leveraging digital outreach to enhance Mozambique’s visibility in global source markets and support inbound travel growth.

Partnership model combining technology and governance

Commenting on the initiative, Jiten Vyas, Chief Commercial Officer at VFS Global, described the collaboration as a significant step in enabling secure and efficient global mobility.

He noted that the upgraded platform integrates modern digital capabilities while supporting Mozambique’s commitment to welcoming international travellers through technology-driven solutions. He also highlighted that the initiative contributes to local employment generation and skills development through operational support structures within the country.

Clear separation of administrative and sovereign functions

Authorities have emphasised that while VFS Global manages the administrative and technical aspects of the e-Visa platform, the Government of Mozambique retains full authority over all visa decisions.

This separation ensures that sovereign decision-making remains with national authorities, while service delivery is enhanced through digital infrastructure and operational efficiency.

Strengthening Mozambique’s position on the global travel map

The introduction of a unified, cloud-based e-Visa system marks an important milestone in Mozambique’s efforts to modernise its travel ecosystem and improve its competitiveness as a tourism and investment destination in Africa.

By aligning digital governance with international mobility standards, the country is positioning itself to better integrate into global travel networks, while offering a more seamless entry experience for visitors across diverse segments.
