Air New Zealand is strengthening air connectivity between India and New Zealand with the launch of a new Christchurch–Singapore service and expanded capacity across its Singapore network, further improving travel access for Indian passengers heading to New Zealand.

The new route will complement the airline’s existing Auckland–Singapore operations and forms part of a broader seasonal capacity expansion strategy aimed at meeting rising demand across tourism, education, business, and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel segments.

The new Christchurch–Singapore service is scheduled to operate three times weekly and will offer more than 34,000 seats during the operating season, significantly enhancing one-stop connectivity options for travellers from India transiting through Singapore Changi Airport.

The development is expected to particularly benefit passengers from major Indian gateways seeking easier access not only to Auckland but also directly to New Zealand’s South Island, reducing the need for multiple domestic connections upon arrival.

According to Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Nikhil Ravishankar, the expanded Singapore operations reflect growing bilateral demand between India and New Zealand across multiple travel categories.

He noted that Indian travellers are increasingly seeking smoother and more efficient journeys to New Zealand, while New Zealand continues to see strong outbound interest toward India for tourism, business, and educational exchanges.

The introduction of direct Christchurch connectivity is also expected to boost tourism to New Zealand’s South Island, widely regarded as one of the country’s most sought-after leisure destinations due to its alpine landscapes, adventure tourism offerings, and scenic experiences.

Air New Zealand highlighted that its extensive domestic network further strengthens the value proposition for international travellers. From Christchurch and Auckland, passengers can seamlessly connect to an additional 18 destinations across New Zealand, enabling multi-city itineraries and broader regional exploration.

The Christchurch–Singapore route will also mark the first deployment of Air New Zealand’s retrofitted Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on the sector. The upgraded aircraft features refreshed cabin interiors and enhanced onboard passenger amenities designed to improve long-haul travel comfort and customer experience.

Industry observers view the move as part of a wider strategy by airlines to capitalise on the rapidly growing India–Asia Pacific travel corridor, particularly as demand for premium leisure and educational travel continues to accelerate post-pandemic.

Singapore remains a critical transit hub for Indian travellers heading to Australia and New Zealand, thanks to strong connectivity, streamlined airport infrastructure, and extensive airline partnerships. Air New Zealand’s enhanced Singapore services are expected to further strengthen its competitive positioning in the South Asia market.

The airline indicated that additional details regarding its broader peak season capacity increase will be announced later this month.
