Indonesia recorded 1.53 million international visitor visits in July 2026, while arrivals by Indian passport holders rose nearly 4% year-on-year to 55,761, underscoring continued momentum in one of the country’s important Asian source markets.
Indonesia recorded 8.98 million international visitor visits between January and July 2026, an increase of 5.23%over the corresponding period last year. The cumulative figure was the highest recorded since 2020, according to Indonesia’s latest tourism statistics.
In July alone, international visitor visits reached 1.53 million, up 2.95% year-on-year and 9.99% from June. Indian passport holders accounted for 55,761 visits, compared with 53,621 in July 2025. The July figure was also higher than the 54,261 visits recorded in June 2026, pointing to a steady rise in Indian travel to Indonesia.
Malaysia remained Indonesia’s largest source market in July, with 228,710 visits, representing about 15% of the total. Australia followed with 188,254 visits, while China and Singapore contributed 156,750 and 117,
Air travel dominates arrivals
Air travel continued to be the principal gateway for international visitors. Indonesia’s main entry points recorded 1.36 million visits in July, of which 1.13 million arrived by air, accounting for 83.04% of visits through those entry points. Sea crossings contributed 182,890 visits, while land crossings accounted for 48,300.
Among individual gateways, Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali recorded the largest number of international visitor arrivals, followed by Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. BPS data show 697,800 international visitor visits through Ngurah Rai in July and 307,051 through Soekarno-Hatta.
International visitors stayed an average of 11.05 nights in Indonesia during July, highlighting the significance of the market beyond arrival volumes alone.
Hotel occupancy improves
Indonesia’s accommodation sector also recorded stronger performance during the month. The occupancy rate at star-rated hotels reached 54.54% in July, an increase of 1.75 percentage points from a year earlier.
Bali posted the highest occupancy rate among Indonesia’s provinces at 67.29%, followed by Banten at 58.89% and DI Yogyakarta at 58.51%. Five-star properties recorded the strongest performance among star-rated hotels, with occupancy reaching 62.34%.
Foreign guests staying in star-rated hotels spent an average of 2.53 nights, compared with 1.48 nights for domestic guests.
Domestic travel adds to tourism momentum
Indonesia’s domestic tourism market continued to expand alongside international arrivals. The country recorded 107.44 million domestic tourist trips in July, up 7.23% year-on-year.
For January-July, domestic trips reached 737.85 million, an increase of 3.34% compared with the same period last year. The figure represents the highest January-July level since 2019, according to BPS reporting.
The combination of rising international arrivals, growing Indian visitation and robust domestic travel points to a broad-based recovery in Indonesia’s tourism sector. For the Indian market in particular, the July increase adds to the country’s growing appeal as a short- and long-haul leisure destination, with Bali and other Indonesian destinations continuing to benefit from strong regional and international demand.
