Lufthansa Group will increase flight frequencies to key Indian cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, as part of its largest network expansion since 2020. The Summer 2027 schedule also introduces 10 new intercontinental routes and additional services across North America, South America, Asia and Europe.

 22 October 2026

Lufthansa Group is strengthening its presence in the Indian market with expanded services for the Summer 2027 season, adding capacity across key routes linking India with its European hubs. The move forms part of a wider network expansion that includes new long-haul destinations, additional frequencies on existing routes and a broader range of connections for international travellers.

The group’s Summer 2027 flight schedule became available for booking on 20 October 2026. According to the official announcement, the programme represents its most extensive network expansion since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

For India, the changes include a second seasonal service between Munich and Delhi, additional frequencies from Frankfurt to Hyderabad and Chennai, and increased services between Munich and Bengaluru. SWISS will also continue operating its Bengaluru connection, introduced in the winter schedule, with five weekly flights during summer.

The expanded schedule is intended to provide travellers with more options for reaching Europe and connecting onwards to destinations across the Lufthansa Group network.

Additional Flights to Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai

Lufthansa will introduce a second seasonal service between Munich and Delhi from 28 March 2027, operated by an Airbus A350-900. The additional flight will increase capacity on a key India–Germany corridor and provide more opportunities for passengers connecting through Munich.

The airline will also increase frequencies between Frankfurt and Hyderabad, and Frankfurt and Chennai. Additional services are planned between Munich and Bengaluru, further strengthening links between India’s major business centres and Germany.

Meanwhile, SWISS will retain its five-times-weekly Bengaluru service throughout the Summer 2027 schedule. The connection offers another option for Indian travellers accessing the Lufthansa Group network through Zurich.

The expanded services are relevant to both business and leisure travellers, as Germany and Switzerland provide onward connections to destinations across Europe and other international markets.

Passengers should check the airlines’ booking platforms for specific operating days, flight timings and availability, as schedules may be adjusted before departure.

Ten New Intercontinental Connections

Beyond India, Lufthansa Group’s summer expansion focuses on North America, South America and Asia, with new services designed to strengthen its international network.

Lufthansa will introduce a nonstop service between Frankfurt and Columbus, Ohio, from 5 May 2027. The route will operate three times weekly using a Boeing 787-9.

From Munich, the airline will launch a three-times-weekly service to Phoenix, Arizona, from 3 August 2027, operated by an Airbus A350-900. The new connection will expand the airline’s reach in the United States and offer passengers additional options for travelling between Europe and the American Southwest.

Japan will also feature prominently in the expansion. From 28 March 2027, Lufthansa will operate daily flights between Frankfurt and Tokyo Narita, complementing its existing services to Tokyo Haneda from Frankfurt and Munich.

The airline will resume seasonal Frankfurt–Nagoya flights from 29 March, with three weekly services. These additions will increase access to Japan for business and leisure travellers while expanding onward connectivity through Frankfurt.

More Capacity on Established Long-Haul Routes

Lufthansa Group will also increase frequencies on several existing long-haul services in response to demand across its international network.

Routes receiving additional capacity include Frankfurt–Cape Town, Frankfurt–Rio de Janeiro, Munich–Chicago, Munich–São Paulo and Munich–Singapore. Frankfurt–Kuala Lumpur, introduced in October 2026, will continue through the summer schedule with daily flights.

The combination of new destinations and increased frequencies is designed to give passengers more choice while improving connections through the group’s major hubs.

Discover Airlines Adds Edmonton to Its Canadian Network

Leisure carrier Discover Airlines will expand its Canadian network with the launch of nonstop flights between Frankfurt and Edmonton from 1 June 2027.

The service will operate three times weekly, making Edmonton the airline’s third Canadian destination alongside Calgary and Halifax. The new route is expected to provide another direct link between Germany and western Canada, serving both leisure travel demand and passengers connecting through Frankfurt.

Discover Airlines will also increase its Munich–Windhoek service to five weekly departures, adding two flights to its existing programme.

ITA Airways, Brussels Airlines and Austrian Airlines Expand

Other Lufthansa Group airlines will introduce new routes and increase capacity across their respective networks.

ITA Airways plans to launch three weekly flights between Rome Fiumicino and Caracas from 30 March 2027. The airline will also introduce a domestic Rome–Verona service from 28 March.

Brussels Airlines will add Evenes in Norway to its summer network, while increasing frequencies on selected European routes. The carrier is also expanding services to destinations including Porto, Heraklion, Zakynthos and Funchal.

Austrian Airlines will introduce seasonal flights between Vienna and Beirut from June to September 2027. The airline will also resume services to Los Angeles in late April, alongside its planned North American network, which includes destinations such as New York, Washington, Boston, Chicago and Montreal.

SWISS will add Toulouse to its European network, operating twice-weekly flights from Zurich between 25 June and 23 August 2027. It will also increase frequencies on selected routes and maintain its expanded long-haul offering, including Bengaluru.

Leisure airline Edelweiss will increase capacity to a number of holiday destinations, including Windhoek, Zanzibar, Punta Cana, Malé and Tampa Bay, giving travellers more options for seasonal leisure trips.

Greater Choice for International Travellers

Lufthansa Group’s Summer 2027 expansion reflects its strategy of increasing capacity in markets where demand supports additional services while introducing new destinations across its global network.

For Indian travellers, the additional flights to Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai offer more opportunities to connect through Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich. The expanded schedule may also provide greater flexibility for passengers travelling onwards to Europe, North America and other international destinations.

With 10 new intercontinental connections and numerous frequency increases, the group is positioning its airlines to serve a wider range of business and leisure travel needs in the coming summer season.
