Akasa Air has crossed a major operational milestone, flying over 17 million revenue passengers and completing 100,000 departures since its launch in August 2022. The low-cost carrier now operates more than 150 daily flights, totaling over 1,000 weekly departures.
The airline’s rapid expansion has also extended to its logistics arm, having transported more than 100,000 tonnes of cargo and completed 98 charter operations to date.
Despite supply chain delays linked to Boeing’s ongoing 737 MAX scrutiny, Akasa remains on a strong growth trajectory. The airline plans to scale its fleet to 30 aircraft by July 2025, with its 28th Boeing aircraft due this month.
Passenger numbers have more than doubled over the past year—from 7.75 million in March 2024 to 16 million by March 2025. International routes, currently accounting for 18% of capacity, are expected to grow to 40% in the near term, according to CEO Vinay Dube.
To support this expansion, Akasa recently raised $135 million in fresh funding from investors including Premji Invest, Claypond Capital, and 360 ONE Asset. The Jhunjhunwala family remains a key backer. The airline is in the process of securing regulatory approvals for the new capital.
Akasa’s swift ascent reflects rising demand for air travel in India and signals its intent to become a serious long-term player in both domestic and international markets.
