From sun-drenched beaches and towering redwoods to world-class cities and gourmet dining, California once again positioned itself as the ultimate playground for Indian travellers. Visit California concluded its third India Mission from September 15–18, engaging 25 leading destinations, attractions, and businesses with India’s top travel trade and media. The mission underscored California’s long-term commitment to one of its fastest-growing international markets, blending market intelligence, strategic partnerships, and premium travel experiences.

Showcasing the Golden State
The delegation included Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, San Francisco Travel, Universal Destinations & Experiences, Disney Destinations, Monterey County, Visit Greater Palm Springs, PIER 39, Citadel Outlets, and Visit Lake Tahoe, among others. Across curated sessions in Mumbai and New Delhi, Indian partners explored California’s diversity—from adventure tourism in Mammoth Lakes and Lake Tahoe to luxury shopping in Citadel Outlets, from culinary experiences in San Francisco to family-focused entertainment at Disney Destinations.
“This week’s mission reaffirms California’s enduring commitment to India,” said Caroline Beteta, President and CEO of Visit California. “From iconic cities to hidden gems, the Ultimate Playground offers endless experiences for Indian travellers, and we look forward to sharing them for years to come.”
The mission combined networking, presentations, and one-on-one engagements, offering trade partners insights into emerging trends and preferences, enabling them to design bespoke itineraries that cater to high-value clientele.
India: A Market on the Rise
India continues to be a strategic priority for California. In 2024, 569,000 Indian travellers visited the state, with arrivals projected to reach 587,000 in 2025. Visitor spending has steadily recovered, rising from USD 1.3 billion pre-pandemic to USD 1.4 billion in 2024, and expected to hit USD 1.5 billion in 2025.
“California’s tourism industry remains committed to India, ensuring that unique, accessible options are always available for Indian travellers,” Beteta added.
A significant driver of growth is air connectivity. Air India offers nonstop flights from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi to San Francisco, complemented by international carriers providing seamless access to California’s top destinations, making the Golden State more reachable for India’s affluent and adventure-seeking travellers.
Marketing the Ultimate Playground
The mission also highlighted Visit California’s Playful Journeys campaign, which emphasizes road trips, scenic drives, and experiential travel. The campaign balances California’s iconic offerings with lesser-known gems, inviting travellers to explore the state’s landscapes, culture, and lifestyle at their own pace.
From the glamour of Los Angeles and the culinary landscapes of San Francisco to the sun-kissed shores of Monterey and Palm Springs, California’s presentation was a curated narrative of sophistication, diversity, and accessibility.
“It’s about more than destinations—it’s about experiences,” said Beteta. “California is a playground that combines adventure, culture, and world-class entertainment in a single, unforgettable journey.”
With rising arrivals, increased spending, and strategic marketing tailored to India’s high-value market, California is cementing its reputation not only as a world-class destination but as a premium playground for Indian travellers seeking luxury, adventure, and cultural richness.
