Kuwait-based low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways has reinstated air connectivity between India and Kuwait through an alternative routing via Saudi Arabia, following weeks of disruption caused by regional airspace restrictions linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The airline has introduced a temporary travel solution enabling passengers to fly from eight Indian cities — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram — to Qaisumah Airport, located in northern Saudi Arabia, before completing their journey to Kuwait by road.
Alternative Corridor to Sustain Connectivity
The relaunch comes in response to the suspension of direct operations into Kuwait due to airspace constraints and the temporary closure of Kuwait International Airport. Positioned approximately 270 kilometres from Kuwait City, Qaisumah Airport serves as a strategic transit point, allowing the airline to maintain essential passenger flows between India and Kuwait.
Under the revised arrangement, passengers arriving in Saudi Arabia are transferred via dedicated bus services into Kuwait, ensuring continuity of travel despite aviation disruptions. Return journeys follow the same multimodal route in reverse, combining air and ground transport to maintain operational efficiency.
First Operational Link Since Disruptions
Jazeera Airways noted that it is currently the only airline facilitating travel from India to Kuwait under these constrained conditions, providing a critical lifeline for passengers, particularly expatriates and residents requiring urgent travel. The airline has specified that travellers must hold valid Kuwait residency to utilise the service.
The initiative highlights the airline’s operational agility in navigating complex geopolitical challenges while sustaining connectivity in a key regional corridor. It also reflects broader industry efforts to adapt to evolving airspace dynamics across the Middle East.
Network Continuity and Expansion Plans
Despite the disruption, Jazeera Airways continues to operate a growing network from Kuwait, connecting to destinations across the Middle East, North Africa and Asia, including Alexandria, Cairo, Amman, Istanbul and Colombo. The airline has indicated plans to gradually expand routes and frequencies as regional conditions stabilise and normal operations resume.
The move underscores the importance of India–Gulf travel flows, one of the busiest international corridors globally, driven by strong demand from business travellers, migrant communities and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) segments.
Industry Implications
The temporary rerouting strategy adopted by Jazeera Airways demonstrates how airlines are leveraging alternative regional gateways and multimodal transport solutions to mitigate disruptions. It also highlights the resilience of the aviation sector in maintaining connectivity amid volatile geopolitical environments.
As the situation evolves, industry stakeholders will be closely monitoring the reopening of direct air routes and the restoration of normal flight operations across the region. Until then, innovative routing solutions such as this are expected to play a crucial role in sustaining passenger mobility.
