For generations, visitors have marveled at Niagara Falls from the riverbanks, observation decks, and boat tours—but now, for the first time, Ontario’s most iconic natural wonder can be experienced from a perspective previously reserved for birds. On August 29, Niagara Takes Flight opens at Table Rock Centre, inviting travellers to embark on a 56-kilometre airborne adventure that combines cutting-edge technology, breathtaking cinematography, and immersive storytelling to celebrate the history, culture, and geography of the Niagara region.
Perched at the very edge of Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Takes Flight is more than just a ride—it is an entirely new way to see, feel, and connect with Niagara. Using custom-built drones and a massive 17-metre-wide, 180-degree domed screen, visitors are suspended in gondola-style seats that move in perfect synchrony with the visuals. The sensation is nothing short of flying, enhanced by wind, mist, and even carefully curated scents that evoke the sights, smells, and emotions of Niagara across the seasons.
An Immersive Flight Across Seasons and Landscapes
Guests are taken on a journey through the region’s natural beauty and urban charm, from the bustling energy of Queen Victoria Park in summer to the glittering spectacle of holiday lights in winter. The flight navigates dramatic river gorges, historic landmarks, and the iconic Horseshoe Falls itself, offering angles that were previously impossible to experience in person.
“Niagara is a living, breathing canvas,” says Rick Rothschild, Creative Director and former Disney Imagineer who spearheaded the original Soarin’ Over California. “The film showcases not just the 56 kilometres of parkland but also the geological evolution and centuries of human history that make Niagara so remarkable. Every frame is designed to create awe, wonder, and a deep emotional connection.”
Before boarding, visitors pass through four immersive pre-show galleries, where audiovisual storytelling immerses them in Niagara’s 13,000-year history. Highlights include the “Ancestors Room,” featuring Indigenous art by Turtle Clan and Mohawk Nation artist Sara General, animated to tell the creation story of Turtle Island. The “Waterfall Room” features narration by Niagara native and filmmaker James Cameron, who recounts the post-contact history of the region, from early settlement to its emergence as a global tourism destination.
“It’s incredibly meaningful to be part of this project,” Cameron reflects. “My first job at 16 was with Niagara Parks, so contributing my voice to celebrate the Falls and the city I grew up in feels like coming full circle, 55 years later.”
World-Class Design and Technology
Niagara Takes Flight is the result of an international collaboration combining innovation, creativity, and precision. Brogent Technologies, a world leader in flying theatre attractions with projects in Vancouver, Chicago, New York, and Las Vegas, oversaw the development. FORREC, the Toronto-based experiential design firm, designed the immersive pre-show environments, while Great Lakes Scenic Studios in Burlington brought these visions to life with cutting-edge fabrication. On-site construction was managed by Merit Contractors Niagara, employing numerous local businesses to ensure authentic and high-quality execution.
“The attraction blends culture, geography, history, and technology,” says Chih-Hung Ouyang, Chairman of Brogent Technologies. “It’s the world’s first flying theatre located in a globally recognized park, and it creates a deeper, emotional connection to Niagara’s landscapes and stories.”
Filming took place between September 2024 and January 2025, using drones to capture unseen angles of landmarks including the Niagara Parks Power Station, Niagara Whirlpool, Old Fort Erie, and the Landscape of Nations Memorial, alongside Niagara’s iconic waterfalls. Hundreds of extras brought each scene to life, creating a film that is both visually spectacular and emotionally resonant.
A Cultural and Tourism Milestone
The launch of Niagara Takes Flight represents a major investment in Ontario’s tourism infrastructure. Bob Gale, Chair of Niagara Parks, describes the attraction as “a transformative addition to Table Rock Centre. From the immersive pre-show galleries to the aerial flight itself, it allows visitors to experience Niagara in a profoundly new way and fosters appreciation for the environmental and cultural heritage Niagara Parks has protected since 1885.”
Stan Cho, Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, adds: “Niagara Falls is a Canadian icon, attracting millions of visitors each year. Niagara Takes Flight elevates the visitor experience, combining technology, storytelling, and culture to create a unique and memorable journey. It is both a cultural experience and an economic driver for the region.”
