European Outlet Sees Growth in Indian Spending, Expands Lifestyle and Experiential Offerings

Outletcity Metzingen, one of Europe’s largest luxury outlet destinations, has reported a 7 per cent increase in tax refund transactions by Indian visitors, highlighting the growing importance of India as a key market for retail‑driven tourism in Germany. This growth coincides with the 30th anniversary of Outletcity AG, the parent company, underscoring three decades of innovation and excellence in luxury retail experiences.

Located in southern Germany, around 30 minutes from Stuttgart, Outletcity Metzingen houses more than 170 premium and luxury brands on-site and provides omnichannel access to over 500 brands worldwide. The destination has evolved from a pioneering factory outlet into a comprehensive lifestyle hub, combining high-end shopping with curated experiences, hospitality, and entertainment.

“Over the past three decades, Outletcity Metzingen has transformed into a globally recognised destination, offering exceptional experiences through strong partnerships with international brands and continuous innovation,” said Janina WittmannDestination Marketing and Partnership Manager. “We are committed to responding to the evolving needs of travellers from around the world, with India emerging as an increasingly important market.”

Beyond fashion, Outletcity Metzingen has expanded into holistic lifestyle offerings. The Enzian Höfe precinct now features beauty, home, and living segments, while the Moxy Hotel, which opened in 2023, provides modern, design-driven accommodation for international visitors. The 2024 inauguration of the Welcome Centre brought concierge services, personalised assistance, and guest information together under one roof, enhancing the overall visitor journey and shopping convenience.

The destination’s experiential focus is further reflected in its seasonal programming and events. Highlights this spring include the Michael Kors sample sale, offering handbags, apparel, and accessories at exclusive prices from March 11–14, and the Ravensburger family event from March 21 to April 4, which features discounts of up to 80 per cent on puzzles and games. In addition, Late Night Shopping events scheduled for March 26–28 and April 24 provide extended hours, curated culinary experiences, and exclusive in-store promotions that create a lively evening atmosphere.

Industry observers note that Indian travellers increasingly integrate luxury shopping into European itineraries, combining it with cultural exploration and lifestyle experiences. Outletcity Metzingen’s strategy of blending premium retail, immersive events, and hospitality ensures it remains a destination of choice for discerning travellers seeking both value and curated experiences.

With continued investment in experiential retail, enhanced services, and strategic partnerships, Outletcity Metzingen positions itself not only as a shopping destination but as a lifestyle and leisure hub, catering to Indian and other international visitors who value curated, high-end, and immersive travel experiences.
