In a landmark moment for global aviation, Turkish Airlines has unveiled its 500th aircraft, a striking addition to its fleet that carries not only passengers but also the collective spirit of its people. Named “TK Family,” the aircraft was introduced at a grand ceremony at Istanbul Airport, symbolizing the airline’s extraordinary journey from national carrier to worldwide aviation powerhouse.

A Livery That Tells a Human Story

Set to officially join the fleet at the end of 2025, the milestone aircraft features a remarkable commemorative livery composed of photographs of Turkish Airlines’ 100,000 employees and retirees. The design transforms the aircraft into a flying tribute—an artistic mosaic celebrating the dedication, loyalty, and teamwork that have defined the airline’s 93-year history.

The unveiling ceremony drew wide participation from across the aviation community. Senior executives, subsidiary leaders, former top management, active staff, retirees, and distinguished industry figures gathered to witness the historic moment. Adding emotional resonance to the occasion were children of martyrs representing all 81 provinces of Türkiye, alongside the cast of the airline’s beloved “Iğdır – When You Dream” commercial, reinforcing the carrier’s deep-rooted national and cultural connections.

More than a fleet expansion milestone, the event underscored a unifying message: Turkish Airlines’ growth story is powered not solely by aircraft numbers or destinations, but by shared ambition and collective effort.

From 65 Aircraft to a Global Aviation Leader

Speaking at the ceremony, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, Prof. Ahmet Bolat, reflected on the carrier’s meteoric rise.

He noted that the 500th aircraft stands as a symbol of nearly a century of determination and vision. When the airline accelerated its global ambitions after 2003, it operated just 65 aircraft. Today, the carrier serves 356 destinations across six continents with a fleet exceeding 500 aircraft—making it one of the most extensive international networks in the world.

Bolat also recalled that 12 years ago, during the filming of the “When You Dream” commercial, the airline operated 247 aircraft serving 247 destinations. At that time, reaching 500 aircraft seemed aspirational. Today, that aspiration has materialized—ushering in what he described as the beginning of the airline’s “Second 500” era.

With a strategic vision to expand its fleet to 1,000 aircraft by 2036, Turkish Airlines aims to further solidify Türkiye’s position as a leading global aviation hub.

A Ceremonial Flight Into a New Era

Marking the occasion in spectacular fashion, the “TK Family” aircraft performed a ceremonial flight under the call sign TK500, tracing the number “500” across the sky. Onboard were children of martyrs and their families, airline executives, former leaders, and employees—each representing a chapter of the airline’s evolving story.

The event also featured a visual timeline of fleet expansion, including aircraft representing key milestones:

  • 100th Aircraft – August 2006
  • 200th Aircraft – November 2012
  • 300th Aircraft – February 2016
  • 400th Aircraft – March 2023
  • 500th Aircraft – December 2025

A full-scale replica of Turkish Airlines’ first aircraft was displayed at the venue, offering guests a powerful reminder of how far the airline has come—from modest beginnings to a commanding presence in global aviation.

Sustainable Growth with a Global Vision

As Turkish Airlines continues investing in next-generation aircraft to enhance operational efficiency, sustainability, and passenger comfort, the 500th aircraft represents both achievement and ambition. It signals not an endpoint, but a stepping stone toward a bold future defined by innovation, connectivity, and responsible growth.

Drawing strength from its heritage while confidently charting its path forward, Turkish Airlines continues to embody its guiding philosophy: growing together, rising together.
