As India’s outbound travel market surges to new heights, Taiwan is making a decisive pitch to capture a larger share of the country’s fast-expanding premium travel segment. In a landmark outreach initiative, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA), under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, led its largest-ever tourism delegation to India in February 2026, positioning the island nation as a sophisticated, safe and seamless destination for leisure, corporate and incentive travellers.

With sustained annual growth exceeding 20 per cent — outpacing India’s overall outbound average by nearly twofold in recent years — Taiwan is deepening its strategic engagement with the Indian market. The initiative signals not just a marketing push, but a broader effort to strengthen Indo-Taiwan cultural ties and people-to-people connections through tourism exchange.

High-Level Delegation, Focused Strategy

The delegation comprised representatives from two Taiwanese airlines, seven leading travel agencies and cultural performance groups, underscoring the scale and seriousness of Taiwan’s India strategy. The outreach began in New Delhi with an exclusive Taiwan Tourism Workshop that attracted more than 100 travel trade professionals and media representatives.

The workshop presented a curated showcase of Taiwan’s premium leisure experiences, robust MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) infrastructure and customised travel solutions designed specifically for Indian travellers. From luxury city breaks and nature-led escapes to corporate incentive itineraries, Taiwan positioned itself as an agile, high-value destination capable of delivering tailored experiences.

The delegation then moved to Mumbai to participate in the three-day Outbound Travel Mart (OTM), one of South Asia’s largest travel trade exhibitions. Through focused business-to-business meetings, immersive pavilion experiences and live cultural performances, Taiwan reinforced its credentials as a competitive Asian destination for India’s growing segment of affluent leisure and corporate travellers.

A Safe, Seamless Asian Destination

A key pillar of Taiwan’s pitch is safety and ease of travel. Renowned for its low crime rates, efficient public transport systems and visitor-friendly infrastructure, Taiwan stands out as one of Asia’s safest destinations — including for solo women travellers. This factor holds particular relevance for India’s increasingly discerning outbound audience, where safety, hygiene and infrastructure rank high in travel decision-making.

Speaking at the New Delhi workshop, Dr. Mumin Chen, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, warmly invited Indian travellers to explore Taiwan’s distinctive blend of nature, culture and innovation.

Globally recognised as a technology and semiconductor powerhouse, Taiwan also offers dramatic mountain ranges, scenic coastlines, dense forests and remarkable biodiversity — all within a compact, easily navigable geography. With a population comparable to Delhi, the island combines metropolitan efficiency with immersive natural beauty, allowing visitors to experience multiple landscapes within short travel times.

India: A High-Growth Opportunity

India, now the world’s most populous country, continues to register robust outbound growth. Nearly 47,000 Indian travellers visited Taiwan in 2025 — marking an increase of more than 20 per cent over 2024 and surpassing pre-pandemic levels. At the same time, India’s outbound travel crossed 30 million departures in 2024, with sustained double-digit growth recorded in the first half of 2025.

These numbers underline the long-term potential of the Indian market — particularly among high-spending leisure travellers, millennials, corporate groups and incentive segments.

Mumbai, which accounts for approximately 63 per cent of India’s corporate and incentive travel movement, has emerged as a strategic focus city. The establishment of the Taiwan Tourism Information Office in Mumbai in 2024 has strengthened trade engagement and facilitated deeper partnerships with travel companies and event planners.

“TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder”: A 24-Hour Destination

At OTM Mumbai, Taiwan presented its global tourism brand, “TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder,” through a pavilion themed “Taiwan Non-Stop.” The concept highlighted the island’s seamless transition from tranquil daytime landscapes to vibrant nightlife and urban energy.

From sunrise vistas atop mountain peaks to bustling night markets that come alive after dusk, Taiwan positioned itself as a 24-hour destination offering diversity, convenience and immersive experiences. The “Non-Stop” narrative reflects not just nightlife, but the fluidity with which travellers can shift between culture, cuisine, nature, shopping and entertainment within a single itinerary.

Cultural Diplomacy at the Forefront

Cultural exchange formed a central component of Taiwan’s India outreach. The Lei Sheng Traditional Arts Troupe performed the dramatic ritual dance of Guan-Jiang-Shou — revered figures in Taiwanese folk belief symbolising protection and positive energy. The performance offered Indian audiences a vivid glimpse into Taiwan’s living traditions.

Artisans from Lukang in Changhua further enriched the engagement with hands-on workshops where Indian travel professionals painted traditional “Sword Lions,” iconic talismans believed to ward off negative forces. These interactive experiences provided a tactile introduction to Taiwan’s heritage and craftsmanship.

Culinary Comfort Meets Street-Food Vibrancy

Recognising the critical role of food preferences in outbound travel decisions, the delegation also spotlighted Taiwan’s ability to cater to diverse dietary requirements, including vegetarian and specialised meal needs — a significant consideration for Indian travellers.

Beyond dietary flexibility, Taiwan’s dynamic culinary landscape — from energetic street food night markets to refined fine-dining establishments — was positioned as a complementary attraction. The blend of authenticity, innovation and accessibility enhances the destination’s appeal to food-loving Indian travellers.

A Long-Term Commitment to India

Describing the February mission as its most significant tourism delegation to India to date, the Taiwan Tourism Administration signalled the strategic importance it attaches to the market. With sustained promotional investments, localised representation and growing airline connectivity, Taiwan is moving from awareness-building to active market consolidation.

Going forward, Taiwan aims to strengthen its foothold in India’s corporate and incentive travel segments while expanding its presence in the broader leisure market. With its combination of safety, sophistication, compact geography and rich cultural identity, Taiwan is positioning itself as a compelling Asian destination for India’s new generation of global travellers — a place where journeys unfold seamlessly, day and night.
