Disney Cruise Line officially welcomed its newest ship, the Disney Adventure, to its expanding fleet with a dazzling christening ceremony that celebrated Disney storytelling, music, and characters in a spectacular showcase of entertainment. The event marked the debut of the cruise line’s first ship to homeport in Southeast Asia, reflecting Disney’s commitment to bringing immersive vacation experiences to new audiences in the region.
Aboard the ship, in the Walt Disney Theatre, guests were treated to a multifaceted performance that combined live music, video effects, and appearances by some of Disney’s most iconic characters. The show featured Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse, a 23-piece orchestra, and performances by Jed Madela, Hollywood Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductee, and Dami Im, international recording artist and Eurovision star. Classic Disney, Pixar, and Marvel melodies came alive on expansive stage screens that enveloped the audience in a cinematic and musical spectacle.
Joining the celebration on stage were Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, who underscored the strategic significance of the new ship for Disney Cruise Line’s growth in Asia.
“The Walt Disney Company has always been built on the power of storytelling and innovation – and Disney Cruise Line brings those values to life in extraordinary ways,” said D’Amaro. “As our first ship to homeport in Asia, the Disney Adventure represents a new chapter, introducing Disney to audiences who may be experiencing our magic for the very first time. It offers fans across this region an opportunity to immerse themselves in unforgettable ways and create memories that are uniquely Disney.”
The christening ceremony reached its highlight with Robert Downey Jr. serving as the Godparent of Disney Adventure. Lending his voice to the ceremonial blessing, Downey Jr. officially named the ship while engaging with the orchestra and audience in a playful yet poignant moment.
“I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created,” said Downey Jr. “Being the Godparent of this majestic vessel is an honor, and I have some serious duties to perform, so let’s make it official, shall we?”
With the orchestral cue, Downey Jr. performed the ceremonial blessing:
“I christen thee, Disney Adventure, may God bless this ship and all who sail upon her.”
The ceremony culminated in a burst of confetti, a lively rendition of Disney Cruise Line’s signature “Let’s Set Sail” song, and appearances by a multitude of beloved Disney characters, creating a festive atmosphere that set the tone for the ship’s maiden voyage.
The Disney Adventure, spanning over 1,122 feet and accommodating approximately 6,700 guests with a crew of 2,500, offers three- and four-night itineraries from Singapore. With immersive themed areas inspired by Marvel, Pixar, and Disney classics, the ship combines innovative storytelling, entertainment, and luxury service to deliver unforgettable experiences for families, first-time cruisers, and Disney enthusiasts across Asia.
The christening of Disney Adventure signals Disney Cruise Line’s continued expansion into one of the fastest-growing travel regions in the world, further positioning Disney as a leader in experiential vacation travel at sea.
