Mumbai: IndiGo is expanding its African network with the launch of daily nonstop flights between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from November 20, 2026, strengthening air connectivity between India and East Africa.
The new service will make IndiGo the only Indian airline operating direct flights between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam, adding a new option for travellers between the two markets. Air Tanzania also currently operates nonstop services on the route.
The new flights are expected to support a growing mix of business, tourism, education and cultural travel, while strengthening links between two countries with longstanding commercial and people-to-people ties.
Daily Service from Mumbai
IndiGo will operate flight 6E 1851 daily from Mumbai, departing at 02:20 and arriving in Dar es Salaam at 06:05 local time.
The return service, 6E 1852, will depart Dar es Salaam at 07:05 and arrive in Mumbai at 15:55. The schedule is subject to regulatory approvals.
The new route will provide travellers with a direct link between India’s commercial capital and Tanzania’s largest city, while also offering convenient access to the wider East African region.
Boost for India–Tanzania Travel
India and Tanzania have developed longstanding economic and commercial relationships, with bilateral engagement spanning sectors including manufacturing, agriculture and healthcare.
IndiGo expects the new nonstop service to facilitate greater movement of business travellers, investors, tourists and students between the two countries.
Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer, IndiGo, said the new service underlined the airline’s commitment to building stronger connections with fast-growing international markets.
“Tanzania is an important economic partner for India and a gateway to East Africa,” Singh said, noting that demand for travel between the markets is being driven by trade, investment, tourism and cultural ties.
He added that enhanced direct connectivity would help deepen economic engagement and bring people and businesses closer, describing the launch as another step in IndiGo’s strategy of connecting India with an increasingly global network.
IndiGo Expands African Footprint
The Dar es Salaam launch further expands IndiGo’s growing presence in Africa.
The airline currently operates direct services from India to Nairobi in Kenya, Mauritius and Seychelles, with the new Tanzania service adding another important destination to its African network.
For leisure travellers, Dar es Salaam also serves as an important gateway to Tanzania’s wider tourism offering, including the country’s Indian Ocean coastline and access to popular safari and island destinations.
IndiGo’s own destination information highlights Dar es Salaam’s coastal setting, cultural attractions and access to Zanzibar and Tanzania’s safari destinations, further enhancing the potential appeal of the new route for Indian leisure travellers.
Strengthening Mumbai’s International Connectivity
The new service adds another long-haul international destination to Mumbai’s growing network and provides travellers with a direct alternative to connecting itineraries between India and East Africa.
With daily operations in both directions, the route is positioned to serve both leisure and business demand while supporting stronger links between India and Tanzania.
