New First Class cabin will debut in September 2027, with four private suites on each aircraft as Etihad expands its premium offering across regional and medium-haul routes
Etihad Airways has unveiled a new First Class cabin for its Airbus A330 fleet, introducing four private suites with closing doors, 32-inch entertainment screens and dedicated personal space as the Abu Dhabi-based carrier expands its premium offering across regional and medium-haul markets.
The new A330 is scheduled to enter service in September 2027, with 15 aircraft planned to join the Etihad fleet over five years. The aircraft will feature three cabin classes and will be deployed on high-demand routes across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The new cabin forms part of Etihad’s Beyond Borders product and experience, a new design and service concept that the airline says will progressively extend across its aircraft, lounges and wider guest journey.
Four-Suite First Class Cabin
At the front of the A330, Etihad will offer just four First Class suites, creating an intimate premium cabin. Each suite will feature a closing door for enhanced privacy and enough space for a companion to join the guest for dining or socialising during the flight.
The suites will be equipped with 32-inch entertainment screens, wireless charging, dedicated storage compartments and a personal powder station stocked with premium amenities. Etihad said guests will be able to use the amenities during the journey and take them away afterwards.
The design incorporates elements inspired by Abu Dhabi’s natural landscape and architecture. Etihad describes the design philosophy as “from sand to superstructure”, combining bright, calm interiors with contemporary detailing.
Leather seating with precision perforation, sculptural sconce lighting inspired by the geometric facet pattern used in Etihad’s branding and discreet First Class seat numbers projected onto the cabin floor are among the design details.
The new aesthetic is intended to create a more consistent visual identity across Etihad’s aircraft and premium spaces as the airline develops its Beyond Borders concept.
Business Class with Direct Aisle Access
Behind the First Class cabin, the new A330 will feature 24 Business Class seats.
All Business Class seats will face forward, provide direct aisle access and convert into fully flat beds. Sliding doors will give passengers the option of creating a more private personal space.
Each seat will feature a 17.3-inch entertainment screen, wireless and wired charging, a large table and dedicated personal storage.
The configuration represents Etihad’s intention to bring a premium three-cabin proposition to routes where a widebody aircraft can provide additional capacity while also supporting demand for First and Business Class travel.
252 Economy Seats
Economy Class will account for 252 seats, with the cabin incorporating Etihad’s fixed-wing headrest, 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen entertainment systems and personal charging.
A dedicated Extra Legroom section will offer 32 seats, each with four additional inches of pitch compared with the standard Economy configuration.
The three-cabin layout is designed to give the A330 flexibility across Etihad’s regional and medium-haul network, particularly on routes where the airline sees demand for premium travel alongside additional capacity.
Etihad has not yet announced the specific destinations that will receive the new A330 when the aircraft enters service in September 2027. The airline said the aircraft will support growth across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
First Class Expansion
The new A330 First Class product is part of Etihad’s broader plan to increase the availability of First Class across its fleet over the next five years.
The airline’s flagship First Class Apartments and The Residence will remain associated with its Airbus A380. Etihad, however, is expanding First Class beyond its traditional long-haul widebody proposition, following the introduction of First Class suites on its Airbus A321LR.
Etihad said the A330 represents the next stage of this strategy, bringing a distinctive First Class experience to its regional and medium-haul widebody network.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said the airline was “doubling down on First” by bringing the experience to more aircraft, routes and guests.
“Beyond Borders goes beyond the aircraft and the seat. It is about the entire journey – our cabins, lounges, food, wellbeing, connectivity and the way we look after our guests,” Neves said.
Beyond Borders Design
Beyond Borders will serve as the overarching design and guest-experience concept connecting Etihad’s next generation of aircraft interiors with its premium ground experience.
The airline has already announced that its renovated London Heathrow lounge, scheduled to reopen in summer 2027, will be the first Etihad lounge to introduce the new Beyond Borders design language. The concept uses common materials, textures, lighting and design details to create greater continuity between aircraft and lounges while allowing individual spaces to retain their own character.
Etihad is investing US$20 billion in new aircraft and customer experience, including a US$1 billion fleet retrofit programme, as it continues its fleet and network expansion.
The new A330 is therefore positioned not simply as an additional aircraft type but as a major component of Etihad’s evolving premium strategy, extending private First Class suites, fully flat Business Class and the Beyond Borders design language to a wider range of routes from Abu Dhabi.
