The construction of a new terminal building is underway at Guwahati airport in Assam.
“Guwahati is the largest metropolis of northeast India and to meet the growing passenger traffic, expansion work has been initiated by Airports Authority of India (AAI),” reads an official tweet by AAI, the statutory body working under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.

AAI is developing this project at a cost of ₹1,232 crore.

The new terminal will be spread across 1,02,500 sqm of area. There will be 64 check-in counters, 20 self-check-in kiosks and ten aerobridges.

Fourteen boarding gates, 20 passenger elevators, 2,400 passenger chairs and 25 security screening lanes for domestic as well as international travellers are a few other features of the ongoing expansion at the airport.

Recently, AAI has announced several new developments to strengthen air connectivity within the country. This includes Chakeri, Leh, Port Blair and Patna airports getting new terminals, and civil aviation operations soon taking off from Darbhanga airport in Bihar. aai.aero
