The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Gateway resort in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, further strengthening its presence in India’s growing leisure and experiential travel market.

The brownfield project, strategically located along the Jaipur–Agra highway, reflects IHCL’s continued focus on expanding into high-potential short-haul destinations driven by rising demand for weekend getaways, destination weddings and domestic leisure travel.

The upcoming Gateway Bharatpur will feature 105 keys and is expected to cater to both leisure and corporate travellers seeking nature, heritage and wellness-focused experiences within easy reach of major urban centres in North India.

IHCL Strengthens Leisure Travel Portfolio

Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development at IHCL, said the project aligns with the company’s strategy of capitalising on India’s rapidly evolving travel preferences.

The increasing popularity of short vacations, drive-to holidays and experiential tourism has accelerated hospitality investments in emerging leisure destinations across the country, particularly in culturally rich and nature-driven locations such as Bharatpur.

With its strategic positioning between Jaipur and Agra, the new Gateway resort is expected to attract domestic tourists, wedding groups, corporate retreats and international visitors exploring Rajasthan’s heritage circuit.

Resort Designed for Leisure and Events

The Gateway Bharatpur will offer a comprehensive mix of hospitality, dining and event facilities aimed at both leisure and business segments.

The property will include:

  • 105 guest rooms and suites
  • An all-day dining restaurant
  • A speciality restaurant
  • Bar and lounge facilities
  • Swimming pool
  • Fitness centre
  • Banquet hall spanning over 4,000 square feet
  • Dedicated pre-function spaces

The project is expected to position itself as a preferred venue for weddings, social celebrations, corporate offsites and destination events, segments that continue to witness strong growth across India’s hospitality sector.

Bharatpur Emerging as Key Experiential Destination

Bharatpur has steadily gained recognition as a prominent experiential tourism destination due to its rich biodiversity, heritage attractions and proximity to major tourist circuits.

The city is globally known for the Keoladeo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most significant bird sanctuaries. The park attracts birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts and eco-tourists from around the world, particularly during the migratory bird season.

Its location near the Golden Triangle tourism route connecting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur further enhances Bharatpur’s appeal as a short-haul leisure destination.

Yadur Kapur, partner in the project, expressed confidence that the collaboration with IHCL would strengthen Bharatpur’s tourism positioning.

He noted that the partnership is expected to help elevate the city’s profile among domestic and international travellers seeking nature, culture and premium hospitality experiences.

Rajasthan Continues to Drive Hospitality Growth

With the signing of Gateway Bharatpur, IHCL’s portfolio in Rajasthan now stands at 67 hotels, including 24 properties currently under development.

Rajasthan remains one of India’s most important tourism and hospitality markets, supported by strong domestic tourism demand, heritage attractions, luxury wedding tourism and growing international arrivals.

IHCL has continued expanding across the state through multiple brands, including Taj, SeleQtions, Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger, catering to diverse traveller segments.

Gateway Brand Targets Emerging Destinations

The Gateway brand has become a key component of IHCL’s strategy to expand in upscale and full-service hospitality markets across India.

Positioned as a contemporary full-service hotel brand, Gateway focuses on delivering comfortable, experience-driven stays in business and leisure destinations alike.

Industry analysts note that India’s hospitality sector is witnessing increasing investor confidence in secondary and tertiary destinations, fuelled by infrastructure development, improved road connectivity and rising disposable incomes.

The Bharatpur project reflects this broader trend as hospitality companies seek to capture growing demand beyond traditional metropolitan markets.

IHCL Continues Aggressive Expansion

Founded by Jamsetji Tata, IHCL remains India’s largest hospitality company by market capitalisation and continues to accelerate expansion across luxury, upscale, wellness and experiential travel segments.

The company currently operates a portfolio of 630 hotels globally, including a significant pipeline of upcoming developments across India and international markets.

Its portfolio includes brands such as Taj, SeleQtions, Vivanta, Gateway, Ginger, Tree of Life, amã Stays & Trails and Claridges Collection.

The signing of Gateway Bharatpur further reinforces IHCL’s long-term commitment to strengthening India’s tourism infrastructure while tapping into the growing demand for experiential leisure travel.
