India to reopen select UK visa application centres

UK Envoy Updates On Re-opening Of Visa Application Centres; Health & Safety The Priority UK Visas and Immigration has announced the reopening of select UK visa application centres in Indian cities from July 6, 2020.

The cities where the service will be available include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru (Global Tech Park), Mumbai, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Hyderabad, Jalandhar, New Delhi and Pune. Customers from cities, where the lockdown has been extended, are advised to refer VFS Global UK for updates.

VFS Global UK said in a statement, “Customers who were unable to attend an earlier appointment, will be able to log into their account to book a new appointment. Customers who have completed their application on GOV.UK, but didn’t previously book an appointment at the visa application center, can do so from today.”

Owing to the ongoing restrictions still in place, global services such as super priority visa, priority visa service (visit), priority visa for settlement or migration service and walk-in services will be unavailable. Meanwhile, as India started relaxing the lockdown guidelines, the MHA also relaxed visa regulations for foreign business-persons. The MHA had issued a memo stating that certain categories of foreign officials including foreign businessmen on business via, foreign healthcare officials, foreign engineering specialists, and foreign technical specialists on invitation from an Indian business entity have been permitted to come into India.

Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said that a  ‘good percentage’ of international flights will begin operations by August-September. He had also said that the ministry is confident that a fair number of international flights will commence operation by August. Domestic flights were allowed to resume operations on May 25, with conditions.
