jonThere’s a new pair of boots under the leadership table: the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) has appointed Jon Mamela as its Vice-President, International. His primary role will be to oversee CTC’s marketing and sales activities in its key international markets. Mamela has a deep marketing background, with launching and building global brands, driving revenue via multi-channel marketing strategies and developing top-drawer CRM programs all in his locker.

Before he signed on the dotted line at CTC, Mamela was Global Director of Customer Experience Marketing & Partnerships for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Before that, he was Travel Alberta’s vice-president, Marketing & Sales from 2009 to 2011, where he developed and executed its annual business and marketing & sales plans as well as its award-winning brand, “Remember to Breathe.” That position entailed working closely with CTC on many partnerships, especially the integration of the Explorer Quotient® (EQ) model into Travel Alberta’s global sales and marketing plans.

Born in Quebec and raised mainly in Saskatchewan, Mamela has visited every province in Canada bar Prince Edward Island, and still has the northern territories on his to-see list. There’s no room here for all of his favourite travel experiences in this country, but some of the highlights are wine touring through the Okanagan Valley, BC; whale-watching in Saint Andrews, NB; strolling through Québec City old town, enjoying its galleries and restaurants; skimming the peaks around Banff and Lake Louise, AB, in a helicopter tour; and enjoying Roughriders games in summer at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, SK.

Mamela fully circumnavigated the globe during one business trip that lasted 17 days, an experience he may have to draw on again as part of his new role at CTC. He leads an active lifestyle that includes golf, hockey and continually experimenting with new workout regimes.
