Vistara has added another long-haul flight to Europe to its route network – Mumbai to Paris. The full-service Indian carrier continues expanding its overseas presence, and Mumbai has been central to the plan.

Mumbai-Paris flight

Vistara has announced that it will start flying between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) from March 28.

The carrier will deploy one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the route, offering a three-class configuration of economy, premium economy, and business class cabins. Just like its Delhi-Paris service, Vistara will connect Mumbai with Paris five times a week. Vinod Kannan, Chief Executive Officer, Vistara, commented,

“Recognised as one of the world’s top destinations for tourism while also being a major hub for business, fashion, culture and commerce, Paris holds significant importance for us. We are delighted to announce direct connectivity between Mumbai and Paris, our sixth route to Europe. The addition of this much-awaited connection is in line with our strategy to position Mumbai as a vital hub for international travel. This also underscores our commitment to offering a multitude of travel options to our customers while choosing to fly the country’s most loved airline.”

More international flights

Vistara has been quite vocal about its ambition to expand internationally. The announcement of the Mumbai-Paris route comes just days after Vistara’s CEO Vinod Kannan said that they are confident of taking delivery of its last Boeing 787 by April. That will allow the carrier to further expand into Europe.

Mumbai alone has seen quite a few of Vistara’s international flights. The Paris route is Vistara’s third long-haul flight out of Mumbai. The airline already operates Mumbai-London and Mumbai-Frankfurt flights.

In December, Vistara also announced that it will further enhance its international connectivity out of Mumbai by increasing frequencies to London Heathrow and Singapore. Currently, it has one daily Mumbai-Singapore flight and four weekly flights from Mumbai to London Heathrow. But this will change from February 1, when it will add one more daily service between Mumbai and Singapore and increase its London Heathrow frequency to daily from March 1.

Just from Mumbai, Vistara now has a total of 15 international destinations, including Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Colombo, Dammam, Dhaka, Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Jeddah, London Heathrow, Male, Mauritius, Muscat, Singapore, and now Paris.

Merger by 2025

Vistara’s route expansion is taking place even as it prepares to eventually merge with another Tata Group airline, Air India. Kannan recently said that the two airlines are busy getting all the regulatory and legal approvals and will merge their operations by 2025. Once that happens, the Vistara brand will cease to exist.
