This summer, Newcastle Airport is set to welcome over 3.5 million passengers, underscoring its role as a crucial link between the region and the rest of the world. In anticipation of the summer rush and a significant uptick in passenger numbers, the airport has invested over £20 million in upgrades.
Travelers will encounter numerous enhancements to their airport experience, including a new security search area, revamped catering facilities, and the introduction of the world’s first three-tier lounge product.
Updates to the Security Search Area
In compliance with a government directive requiring all UK airports to adopt advanced security scanning technologies, Newcastle International has made substantial investments to overhaul its security search area and implement this cutting-edge equipment in time for the summer.
The updated security area has been completely remodeled to offer a bright and contemporary setting for passengers as they begin their journey. The new scanners enable passengers to keep all liquids and electronics in their hand luggage, streamlining the screening process and enhancing efficiency.
While the advanced security equipment allows for the possibility of carrying liquids in hand luggage, passengers are still encouraged to visit the airport’s website to review all the updated regulations before traveling.
Updated Dining Options
In response to passenger feedback, the Airport has revamped numerous dining facilities in the departure lounge, presenting a delightful array of choices for travelers.
Aster & Thyme offers a luxurious setting with panoramic views of the airfield and showcases the finest local ingredients in its breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings.
Soul + Grain introduces a fresh ‘food to go’ concept, featuring freshly prepared, nutritious meals available all day, including an extensive selection of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
Tap + Brew, formerly known as Beer House, has been transformed into a modern space where travelers can enjoy a variety of local stotties and beers on tap, including a sought-after gluten-free beer from Full Circle, complemented by Sky Sports coverage.
Enhanced Executive Lounge Experience
The Airport’s Aspire Executive Lounge has undergone an expansion and comprehensive renovation, now accommodating over 300 guests. It is the first in the world to feature Aspire’s innovative ‘3-tier’ product.
The lounge offers three distinct options: Aspire, Luxe, and Suite, each providing varying levels of complimentary food and beverages to cater to different budgets.
Dean Ward, Director of Commercial at Newcastle International Airport said: “We are committed to providing the best possible customer experience, and the recent investments over the winter period are a fantastic example of this.
“We are extremely proud of the work that has gone in to complete the security search area project ahead of the summer season, which is already providing passengers with a hassle-free start to their journey.
“The investment in the departure lounge is all based upon passenger feedback. The new outlets not only look world-class but provide passengers with a relaxing, comfortable environment to enjoy before boarding their flights – as well as serving a fantastic range of food and drink options to suit everyone.”
