The South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) is all set to woo Indian travellers in the New Year. Currently most of the Indian visitors come to South Australia for purposes of visiting friends and relatives or holidays with family. The State saw 15,000 visitors coming in from India in the year ending September 2015.
With the number of outbound Indian travellers growing rapidly, SATC has targeted India as a key growth market and has allocated AUD2 million spend from 2015-2017. This is a part of the South Australian Tourism 2020 Plan which aims to achieve the State Government’s target for an $8 billion tourism industry by 2020.
Dana Urmonas, Regional Director, Southeast Asia and India, SATC elaborates, “South Australia offers everything that Indian travellers are looking for- vibrant city culture, nature and wildlife and the best food and wine in Australia. India has always been a key focus for The South Australian Tourism Commission and we are excited about our plans for the market in the New Year.”
Over the years, the SATC has established strong relationships with Tourism Australia, ITOs, travel agents and airlines and will look to leverage these relationships to promote South Australia in India. As part of the plan for the Indian market, SATC will ensure that travel agents are up-to-speed on all the attractions within the State. Key activities will include joint promotions with travel agents to have South Australia included in multi-city tours within Australia, and consumer branding programs to strengthen awareness of South Australia.
Offering the best of Australia in one place the State promises to captivate travellers with its unspoilt nature, premium food and wine and an unhurried pace of life with friendly people. From vibrant Adelaide and the pristine Kangaroo Island, to the famed wine of the Barossa, South Australia brings something to appeal to everyone. City explorers can visit the popular Adelaide Oval, the redeveloped Riverbank Precinct and the city laneways filled with new bars and restaurants.
Travellers looking to escape city life can enjoy the peaceful coastal towns or the picturesque hills and sip on world class wine in any of the 16 wine regions within the State. Most major attractions are within an hour’s drive away from the capital city, Adelaide.
South Australia has abundant wildlife and marine life. From walking among Australian sea lions, searching for wombats, cuddling koalas, feeding kangaroos and watching dolphins, wildlife experiences within the State will thrill and impress travellers.
