This event coincides with the airline’s 45th anniversary on 1 September 2024, adding to its significance in the airline’s history.
SriLankan Airlines, in collaboration with Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka), celebrated a special milestone event on August 22, 2024. The airline, which is approaching its 45th anniversary on September 1, 2024, delighted a group of young Buddhist monks, or ‘Samaneras,’ with a memorable experience.
The Samaneras, aged five and older from Ganewatta Purana Rajamaha Viharaya in Waskadubedda, Deldoova, Kalutara, were given a unique guided tour of Bandaranaike International Airport. Accompanied by Venerable Theros and SriLankan Airlines volunteers, the young monks explored various ground operations and enjoyed their first opportunity to board a SriLankan Airlines Airbus A320.
In alignment with religious traditions, special almsgiving (Dana) and pirikara were hosted in the airport’s Silk Route Arrival Lounge. The event was attended by SriLankan Airlines staff, senior management, and key representatives from Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka), marking a significant moment in the airline’s history
