Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj has said that Uttarakhand has got the gift of immense natural beauty, which attracts tourists from across the country and the world for centuries. Addressing a press conference organized on the second day of the four-day Arabian Travel Market (ATM) held in Dubai, Shri Maharaj said that the State Government is opening many tourist places of historical importance to the tourists. Of these, the stairs of Gartang street have already been opened.

Satpal Maharaj said that after about two years, in view of the normalcy from Corona, once again all tourism activities are being operated in Uttarakhand. A large number of pilgrims are expected this year for the world famous Chardham Yatra, which began on May 3. For this, all the preparations have been made by the government.

Specially mentioning Gartang street in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, he said that the steps of the historic Gartang street located in Nelong valley, which was witness to Indo-Tibetan trade, are being visited by tourists from all over the world. He said that filmmakers are also being invited to explore the film shooting potential of various places of interest in the state. Talking about the Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh, he said that the Beatles composed some of the most iconic songs at the Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, including a song on Dehradun.

Referring to Chopta of Rudraprayag district, the tourism minister said that Chopta is full of unique beauty. Regarding the development of infrastructure related to tourism in the state, Shri Maharaj said that an international airport is being developed at Haridwar and the day is not far when flights will be started from Haridwar for Chardham, Yoga and Ganga Darshan. He also gave detailed information about the efforts of the Uttarakhand government towards promoting homestays and local cuisine among tourists. The Tourism Minister said that under the Deendayal Homestay Scheme, we are encouraging the local people to set up homestays.

During the press conference, Ms. Rupinder Brar, Additional Director General, Union Ministry of Tourism, Rakul Preet Singh Film Actress, K. Kalimathu Cultural Secretary, Embassy of India, Dubai, Prashant Ranjan, Director Union Ministry of Tourism, Additional Director, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board Vivek Singh Chauhan and Nainital District Tourism Officer Brijendra Pandey were present.
