V Vidyavathi is all set to take over as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. She will be taking over from Arvind Singh whose tenure ends on May 31 upon his superannuation. The 1991-batch IAS officer, who is currently holding the post of Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India, will be appointed as the Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry in the rank of Secretary.

Her role, which will see her working closely with Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, will include promoting India as a tourist destination for domestic and global markets by working with different stakeholders as well as driving the development of the country’s tourism industry.

Outgoing Secretary Singh, who has been holding the post since September 2019, has played a key role in the growth of the country’s tourism development in recent years. Under his leadership, India has seen the ministry actively engaging in and promoting tourism activities that complement the global needs, such as sustainability, while also broadening the avenues of potential tourist destinations, exploring aspects like lighthouse tourism and river cruises.
