ITC Hotels Limited has announced the signing of a new 90-key Fortune Select Guwahati, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion strategy across India’s high-growth hospitality markets and strengthening its presence in the Northeast region.

Scheduled to open in April 2028, the upcoming property will represent Fortune Hotels’ premier presence in Guwahati, one of Northeast India’s most important commercial and tourism gateways. The signing reflects the hospitality group’s growing focus on tapping emerging urban centres experiencing rapid infrastructure development, increasing business activity, and rising tourism demand.

According to the company, the hotel will feature 90 well-appointed guest rooms alongside a comprehensive range of hospitality facilities designed to cater to both business and leisure travellers. Planned amenities include an all-day dining restaurant, banquet and conferencing spaces, and modern guest services aligned with evolving travel preferences in the region.

Commenting on the development, Anil Chadha, Managing Director of ITC Hotels Limited, described Guwahati as a highly attractive and strategically important market for hospitality growth.

“Guwahati is an exceptionally attractive market. It has an evolving business environment with equally interesting leisure spaces. We look forward to meeting the region’s growing appetite for quality branded stays and delighting the city with our signature hospitality,” Chadha said.

Guwahati Emerging as a Major Hospitality and Tourism Hub

Guwahati has increasingly emerged as a critical gateway to Northeast India, driven by its strategic location, improving connectivity infrastructure, and growing economic importance. The city serves as a major transit and commercial hub for the region while also supporting government and administrative activity, with Dispur — the capital of Assam — functioning as a suburb within the Guwahati metropolitan area.

The city continues to witness sustained demand from both domestic and international travellers due to its proximity to prominent religious, cultural, and eco-tourism destinations.

Among the region’s key attractions is the revered Kamakhya Temple, one of India’s most significant spiritual destinations attracting pilgrims year-round. Guwahati also serves as a primary access point for visitors travelling to Kaziranga National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed wildlife reserve renowned for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses and biodiversity tourism.

The region’s heritage tourism appeal is further strengthened by destinations such as Hajo and Madan Kamdev Temple, the 10th-century archaeological site often referred to as the “Khajuraho of the North-East” due to its intricate sculptural heritage.

Industry observers note that Guwahati’s hospitality market has experienced accelerated growth in recent years, supported by substantial investments in multimodal transport infrastructure, including airport modernisation, railway upgrades, and improved highway connectivity. These developments have contributed to increasing demand for branded accommodation from corporate travellers, government delegations, MICE events, and leisure tourists exploring Northeast India.

Fortune Hotels Strengthens Presence in Emerging Markets

The signing of Fortune Select Guwahati aligns with Fortune Hotels’ broader strategy of expanding into fast-growing Tier-II and Tier-III destinations across India. The hospitality brand, a member of the ITC Hotels Group, has been actively increasing its footprint in emerging business and tourism markets where demand for quality branded hospitality continues to rise.

The company stated that the new property will combine contemporary comfort with efficient service standards, reinforcing Fortune Hotels’ positioning within the upscale hospitality segment.

Hospitality analysts believe the Northeast region represents one of India’s most promising tourism growth corridors, supported by increasing government focus on regional development, improved connectivity, eco-tourism initiatives, and rising traveller interest in experiential and cultural tourism.

The upcoming Fortune Select Guwahati is expected to contribute to the region’s hospitality infrastructure while supporting the growing demand for premium accommodation options catering to a diverse mix of business and leisure travellers.
