Indian visitor numbers continue to soften, while higher tourism receipts and longer stays highlight the market’s value to Singapore’s tourism sector.
Singapore recorded 87,770 visitor arrivals from India in August 2026, a 3.7% decline year on year, extending a downturn in one of the destination’s important source markets. However, Indian travellers continued to contribute significantly to tourism spending and stayed longer than the average international visitor.
The August figure followed a 6.6% decline in Indian arrivals during the first half of 2026. Singapore welcomed 604,530 visitors from India between January and June, compared with 647,260 during the same period in 2025 — a reduction of 42,730 arrivals.
Overall, Singapore received approximately 1.61 million international visitors in August, down 0.3% from a year earlier. Mainland China remained the largest source market, with 435,440 arrivals, followed by Indonesia with 161,680, Malaysia with 94,200 and Japan with 92,960. India ranked fifth, ahead of Australia, which recorded 86,570 arrivals.
Despite the decline in visitor numbers, spending by Indian travellers increased. Tourism receipts from India reached S$374 million in the first quarter of 2026, up 8% year on year, according to figures reported from Singapore Tourism Board data.
The wider tourism picture also reflected softer performance. Singapore recorded 11.43 million international visitor arrivals between January and August, down 1.7% from the corresponding period in 2025. Overnight visitors totalled 8.37 million, a 3.2% decline year on year.
The average length of stay across all international markets fell 2.8% to 3.43 days during the first eight months of the year. Indian visitors, however, stayed for an average of 5.95 days in August, compared with 3.46 days across all markets.
The figures point to a mixed outlook for Singapore’s Indian source market: arrivals have weakened, but visitor spending and longer stays underline the market’s continued importance to the destination’s tourism economy.
