India has extended a visa-fee waiver for Thai nationals travelling to the country, allowing eligible visitors to obtain a 30-day e-Tourist Visa with double entry without paying a visa fee.
The arrangement, announced by the Embassy of India in Bangkok, will remain in force until December 31, 2027, or until further orders. The measure is aimed at facilitating travel between India and Thailand and making visits to India more accessible for Thai travellers.
Visa fee waived for Thai travellers
Under the arrangement, Thai passport holders can apply online for a 30-day Indian e-Tourist Visa with permission for two entries without being charged the applicable visa fee.
India’s official e-Visa fee schedule, dated September 8, 2026, lists the fee for Thai nationals at zero for the 30-day e-Tourist Visa. The same schedule separately lists fees for longer-duration e-Tourist Visa categories.
The initiative represents a visa-fee waiver rather than visa-free travel. Thai nationals must still obtain an approved e-Tourist Visa before travelling to India.
Online application remains mandatory
Thai travellers planning a holiday in India can apply through the Government of India’s official e-Visa portal.
The Indian e-Visa system states that the 30-day e-Tourist Visa is valid for 30 days from the date of first arrival, with multiple entries permitted within the validity period.
Travellers should use only the official Indian government portal when submitting an application and should check the latest eligibility and entry requirements before departure.
Boost for India-Thailand tourism
The fee waiver comes as India and Thailand continue to strengthen tourism and people-to-people links.
According to figures cited by the Indian Embassy in Bangkok, around 130,000 Thai tourists visited India in 2025, while Thailand accounted for 140,489 foreign tourist arrivals to India in 2024. Air connectivity has also expanded, with Thailand linked directly to more than 15 Indian cities, according to the same source.
The extended fee waiver gives Thai travellers an additional incentive to consider India for leisure and cultural holidays while supporting wider tourism exchanges between the two countries.
Travellers can enter India twice
The double-entry provision gives eligible Thai visitors greater flexibility to include India as part of a wider regional itinerary or to make two visits within the visa’s validity period, subject to the applicable immigration requirements.
For the Indian tourism sector, the measure also provides an opportunity to strengthen engagement with Thailand as a Southeast Asian source market and encourage greater awareness of India’s destinations and experiences.
