Luxury hospitality executive Ruby Garcia has returned to Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Krabi, Thailand, as General Manager, bringing more than two decades of international experience to the Andaman Sea resort.

Garcia’s appointment marks a return to a property where she previously held senior leadership positions. She joined Phulay Bay as Director of Operations in 2017 and subsequently became General Manager in 2018, spending almost three years at the resort.

She now returns following a career that has included senior roles with international luxury hotel groups, including Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons, as well as serving as the opening General Manager of COMO Metropolitan Singapore.

Returning to a familiar destination

Garcia’s return brings her back to a resort and destination with which she has an established connection.

During her earlier tenure at Phulay Bay, she was involved in operations, guest experience and longer-term investment initiatives. The latest appointment gives her responsibility for the resort’s next phase of development while drawing on her previous experience with the property and the wider luxury hospitality sector.

“Returning to Phulay Bay is incredibly meaningful. In many ways, it feels like coming home to family,” Garcia said in comments released following her appointment.

She also highlighted the importance of the resort’s team and its connection to Thai culture, saying that the people working at the property had been central to her previous experience there.

Focus on wellness, gastronomy and local experiences

In her new role, Garcia is expected to focus on strengthening the guest experience while developing experiences that connect visitors more closely with Krabi and southern Thailand.

Her priorities include wellness, gastronomy and locally inspired activities, with an emphasis on creating more personalized experiences rooted in the destination.

The approach reflects the growing focus within luxury hospitality on experiences that extend beyond accommodation, incorporating local culture, food, wellness and a stronger sense of place.

Team development will also form part of Garcia’s agenda, with the new General Manager emphasizing employee empowerment, mentoring future hospitality leaders and greater representation of women in senior hospitality positions.

Experience across international luxury hospitality

Garcia brings more than 20 years of experience across Asia, the Caribbean and the United States.

Her career has included positions with established luxury hospitality companies such as Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons. More recently, she served as the opening General Manager of COMO Metropolitan Singapore, overseeing the launch of the property in the Singapore market.

Her experience spans hotel openings, operations, guest experience and team leadership — areas that will be relevant as Phulay Bay continues to develop its positioning in Thailand’s luxury resort market.

Garcia was also named a finalist for General Manager of the Year at the 2026 Stelliers Asia Awards, according to the announcement of her appointment.

Phulay Bay’s luxury resort proposition

Located on Thailand’s Andaman coast in Krabi, Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve combines private villas, personalized service and a setting overlooking the region’s limestone landscapes and waters.

Marriott’s official property description highlights the resort’s connection to Thai craftsmanship and local design, with villas opening onto tropical gardens and the surrounding coastal landscape.

The property is part of the Ritz-Carlton Reserve portfolio, a collection of destinations positioned around highly personalized service and distinctive locations.

The resort’s accommodation includes private villas, while its offering encompasses dining, wellness and experiences designed around the natural and cultural characteristics of Krabi.

Building the next chapter

Garcia’s return comes as luxury travellers increasingly seek highly personalized stays and experiences that connect accommodation with the character of a destination.

For Phulay Bay, her appointment provides continuity with its earlier leadership while bringing experience gained through subsequent international assignments.

Her stated priorities — from wellness and gastronomy to locally inspired experiences and team development — will shape the resort’s next phase as it continues to position itself within Thailand’s luxury hospitality market.
