The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has successfully concluded its annual Hong Kong Travel Mission to India, a multi-city roadshow held from August 18–26 across Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

Bringing together a delegation of 41 tourism partners — including leading hotels, theme parks, airlines, cruise operators, attractions, and destination management companies — the mission underscored Hong Kong’s appeal as a versatile destination for leisure, family, and business travellers. Over 750 Indian travel agents and trade professionals engaged directly with Hong Kong representatives, gaining insights into new offerings and developments shaping the city’s visitor experience.

India Emerges as a Key Growth Market

Hong Kong’s outreach comes against the backdrop of a strong rebound in Indian arrivals. From January to July 2025, the city welcomed 233,000 visitors from India, reflecting an 8% year-on-year increase and reaching 94% of pre-pandemic levels.

India has now climbed to 11th place among Hong Kong’s visitor source markets, with travellers staying an average of four nights. Nearly two-thirds of Indian visitors opt for overnight stays, while 43% were first-time visitors in 2025, signalling growing awareness and appetite for Hong Kong as a premier destination.

Air connectivity has also expanded significantly, with 53 weekly direct flights linking Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad — making Hong Kong one of the most accessible international gateways for Indian travellers.

Leisure, Family, and Premium Travel on the Rise

Travel trends reveal a clear shift in visitor profiles:

  • Family and group travel surged from 29% in Q1 to 43% in Q2 of 2025.
  • India now ranks fifth globally in per capita spending, underscoring rising demand for luxury and premium experiences.
  • MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) has seen a 33% year-on-year growth, with 55,587 Indian delegates visiting Hong Kong in the first half of 2025.

“A City That Offers It All”

Speaking on the sidelines of the mission, Puneet Kumar, Director – South Asia, HKTB, highlighted Hong Kong’s diverse portfolio:

“Hong Kong is unlike any other city — a super cosmopolitan hub with world-class attractions, unique experiences such as Derby racing, island hopping, and yachting, alongside vibrant nightlife, culinary adventures, and cultural festivals. Yet within minutes, you can escape to serene beaches, mountains, and hiking trails across our 263 islands. It’s a destination that blends energy and calm, excitement and discovery.”

Kumar further emphasised Hong Kong’s year-round calendar of mega-events — from Summer VIVA and the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance to Halloween festivities, Wine & Dine, WinterFest, and the world-renowned New Year Countdown Fireworks.

“There is never a dull moment in Hong Kong. Whether for family holidays, celebrations, cruises, or MICE events, the city delivers unforgettable experiences and unmatched hospitality,” he added.

Looking Ahead: Strengthening the India–Hong Kong Travel Corridor

With near-full recovery in arrivals, visa-free access, and an ever-expanding portfolio of cruise itineraries, attractions, and cultural showcases, Hong Kong is poised to deepen its engagement with Indian travellers.

By offering a blend of heritage and modernity, urban buzz and natural escapes, the city continues to position itself as a preferred destination for leisure seekers, families, premium holidaymakers, and business event organisers alike.

As the latest travel mission demonstrated, Hong Kong is not just back on the map — it is setting the pace for Asia’s next chapter of tourism growth.
