At a press meet held recently in New Delhi, Mammoth Lakes and Mono County in California launched their campaign to target the Indian market that they rated as the top 5 of their source markets pre-COVID. Addressing the meeting, Jeff Simpson, Economic Development Director of Mono County, and Michael Vanderhurst, Director of Sales and International Marketing, at Mammoth Lakes Tourism addressed the developments and activities that would attract a more adventurous and mature Indian traveler.
“A 5-hour drive from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco or via direct daily flights from SFO, LAX, DENVER on United Airlines makes Mammoth Lakes very accessible. Surrounded by 2.2 million acres of National Forest it is the perfect base to explore with 100s of different trails from flat to difficult that make it perfect for every fitness level. With stay options at 3 and 4-star that offer great value and about 65 different restaurants in town with phenomenal vegetarian food, Mammoth Lakes is a perfect Indian family holiday destination. Every weekend in the summer has a different music, food, wine, or craft beer festival,” added Vanderhurst.
With many big-budget Hollywood films using Mono County as the location for their shoots (thanks to the close proximity to Los Angeles); it is also a favoured destination for tourists who love its scenic drive along the picturesque US 395 highway, natural attractions, miles of undulating landscape, fishing and hiking on its various trails.
“The top attractions of Mono County include the wonderful Yosemite National Park which is a classic must-do for visiting California. With free skiing for kids at the June Mountain ski area, it is definitely a trip we recommend to travelers from India,” said Simpson.
