Israel is making it easier for Indian travelers to visit with the launch of a new e-visa system and improved air connectivity, reinforcing tourism ties between the two nations.
Strengthening Bilateral Tourism Relations
Israel’s Tourism Minister, Haim Katz, recently concluded a strategic visit to India, where he engaged with government officials, travel industry leaders, and airline executives. The visit aimed to enhance accessibility for Indian tourists and promote Israel as a preferred travel destination. With Air India set to resume flights to Israel in March 2025, both governments are optimistic about a surge in tourism numbers. Discussions centered on ensuring seamless flight operations and the potential for additional direct routes.
India’s Growing Role in Israel’s Tourism Market
Despite geopolitical challenges in 2024, India remained a key source market for Israeli tourism. Between January and December 2024, approximately 9,600 Indian tourists visited Israel, demonstrating sustained interest in the destination.
In total, Israel welcomed 961,700 tourists in 2024, with Indian travelers forming a crucial segment of its inbound market. With a ceasefire in place and improved air connectivity, experts anticipate steady growth in Indian arrivals throughout 2025.
Air India’s resumed direct services from major Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai to Tel Aviv are expected to be instrumental in driving this growth, making Israel more accessible for Indian tourists.
E-Visa Initiative Simplifies Travel for Indian Tourists
Israel launched its e-visa service for Indian travelers in January 2025, a significant move to streamline travel processes. This digital initiative facilitates visa applications for individual travelers and families, reducing paperwork and expediting approvals. The e-visa integrates seamlessly with Israel’s Entry Travel Authorization (ETA) system, encouraging more Indian visitors to experience the country’s cultural and historical attractions.
While the e-visa is currently available for Indian citizens in its pilot phase, Israel plans to expand this digital facility to additional international travelers in the future. Group visa applications will continue to be processed through the existing system.
Israel’s Tourism Roadmap for 2025: A Focus on India
Minister Katz’s visit to India underscores the country’s strategic importance in Israel’s tourism agenda. The Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT) has devised a comprehensive action plan for 2025 to attract more Indian visitors.
Key initiatives include:
- Expanding trade and media outreach to position Israel as a must-visit destination.
- Participation in major travel trade shows across India.
- Targeting Tier II cities such as Hyderabad, Pune, and Ahmedabad.
- Organizing experiential events in India to highlight Israel’s diverse tourism experiences.
- Running year-round marketing campaigns emphasizing Israel’s history, culture, cuisine, and adventure opportunities.
Israel aims to appeal to Indian travelers seeking a mix of spiritual, historical, and leisure experiences, from exploring Jerusalem’s religious landmarks to relaxing on the beaches of Tel Aviv.
Strengthening Bilateral Tourism Cooperation
During his visit, Minister Katz met with India’s Tourism Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to discuss strategies for increasing tourism exchanges. Their discussions reaffirmed the long-standing cultural and economic ties between Israel and India, identifying steps to further facilitate travel for Indian visitors.
Accompanying Minister Katz were key officials from IMOT, including Peleg Lewi, Foreign Affairs Advisor, and Hassan Madah, International Marketing Director. The delegation also engaged with Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, to reinforce the importance of direct air connectivity between the two nations.
A Promising Future for India-Israel Travel
As Israel and India continue strengthening tourism collaboration, the outlook for increased travel between the two countries is promising. The combination of an efficient e-visa system, enhanced air connectivity, and targeted marketing campaigns is expected to drive greater tourist inflows from India.
With India’s expanding outbound travel market and Israel’s unique offerings, 2025 is poised to be a year of growth and deeper engagement between the two nations’ tourism sectors. For Indian travelers, Israel presents an enticing blend of history, adventure, and modern attractions—now more accessible than ever.
