Hospitality veteran to lead commercial strategy as luxury resort strengthens focus on India and key international markets

JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa has appointed Shagun Sethi as its new Director of Sales and Marketing, strengthening its executive leadership team as the luxury beachfront resort accelerates growth across key international source markets, including India.

Sethi brings more than 20 years of experience in luxury hospitality, commercial strategy and business development across India and overseas markets. In her new role, she will oversee the resort’s sales, marketing, public relations and digital strategy, with a focus on enhancing brand visibility, expanding market segments and driving sustainable business growth.

Extensive Hospitality Leadership Experience

Before joining JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Sethi held senior commercial leadership roles with The Oberoi GroupFairmont Hotels & Resorts and ITC Hotels.

Most recently, she served as National Sales Manager – Group Sales at ITC Hotels, where she led strategic partnerships, managed key corporate accounts and drove commercial growth across the portfolio.

Widely recognised within the hospitality industry, Sethi has extensive expertise in luxury leisure traveldestination weddings and the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment. She is also a founding member of the Indian Wedding Industry Association (IWIA).

India Continues to Drive Growth

Speaking during interaction in New Delhi, Sethi highlighted the growing importance of the Indian market for the Phuket resort.

She said India currently accounts for nearly 30% of the resort’s business, spanning destination weddings, MICE events and luxury leisure travel, making it one of the property’s most significant international source markets.

She added that the resort will continue to strengthen its engagement with Indian travellers while introducing enhanced luxury experiences through an extensive refurbishment programme.

Comprehensive Resort Renovation in Progress

Spread across 27 acres on Phuket’s Mai Khao Beach, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa is currently undergoing a phased renovation designed to elevate its guest experience.

The first phase includes the refurbishment of the south wing, comprising 130 guest rooms, while the remainder of the resort continues to operate as usual.

The renovated south wing is scheduled to reopen by the end of October 2026, alongside several upgraded facilities, including:

  • A redesigned Thai specialty restaurant
  • The new JW Steakhouse
  • A refurbished M Beach Club

The second phase will begin in February 2027, when the north wing closes for renovation. The full transformation of the resort is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Strengthening Commercial Growth

The appointment comes as JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa continues to invest in product enhancements and expand its presence in high-value international markets.

With her strong commercial background and deep understanding of the Indian luxury travel market, Sethi is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the resort’s sales strategy, strengthening partnerships and reinforcing its position as one of Phuket’s leading luxury hospitality destinations.
