Slovenia has been chosen as the Convention & Culture Partner of ITB Berlin 2017, the world’s largest tourism trade fair, in what Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) has labelled as an excellent opportunity for Slovenian tourism. The agreement on the partnership at the fair, running between 8 and 12 March, was signed by the Slovenian and German officials at a meeting in Munich.

The ITB Berlin fair attracts some 10,000 exhibitioners as well as 6,000 journalists every year, which makes it a major industrial as well as media event. Germany ranks as the 3rd biggest market for Slovenian tourism with German visitors accounting for 12% of overnight stays. This year by July they generated 5% more overnights than in the same period last year. “The country’s commitment to sustainable development and culture are key motives of German guests in selecting Slovenia as their target destination,” STO director Maja Pak said on the occasion.

Slovenia’s stall at ITB Berlin 2017 will focus on culture and natural spas, while as partner the country and its tourism will also be showcased in the many convention activities and cultural programme. “As a country that blends so many different cultural influences it has developed its own unique character which is fascinating more and more tourists. We are convinced that by taking part in ITB Berlin Slovenia will gain an extra boost,” ITB Berlin cited its head David Ruetz as saying on the occasion.
