Aviation veteran brings more than two decades of engineering and airline leadership experience to Sri Lanka’s national carrier
SriLankan Airlines has appointed aviation veteran Vipul Misra as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 9 September 2026, as the national carrier seeks to strengthen operational performance and advance its long-term sustainability.
Misra previously served as the airline’s Head of Engineering and Accountable Manager. He joined SriLankan Airlines in 2024, bringing extensive experience in aircraft engineering and aviation management.
According to information published by SriLankan Airlines, Misra has more than two decades of experience in aircraft engineering, with a career spanning major commercial carriers including Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, IndiGo, Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines. His previous responsibilities have ranged from aircraft certification and engineering to senior technical management roles.
His professional background covers legacy, full-service and low-cost airline operations, giving him experience across different airline business models and technical environments. SriLankan Airlines said this breadth of expertise is expected to provide strong technical and operational direction during the interim period.
The appointment comes at a significant period for SriLankan Airlines, as the carrier works to improve operational performance and strengthen its long-term sustainability. Misra’s engineering and airline-management background places a strong technical focus at the centre of the carrier’s interim leadership.
SriLankan Airlines is the national carrier of Sri Lanka and operates an international network from its main hub at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.
