Two new Qantas services connect Auckland and Johannesburg to Perth.
Western Australia has strengthened its position as Australia’s Western Gateway with the launch of two new non-stop Qantas services connecting Perth with Auckland and Johannesburg.
Operating three times a week aboard Airbus A330 aircraft, the new routes will provide travellers from New Zealand and South Africa with greater convenience and seamless access to Western Australia.
Together, the services are expected to add around 80,000 inbound seats annually, boosting tourism, business travel and opportunities for family reunions.
The new Qantas flights complement existing services operated by Air New Zealand and South African Airways, taking Perth’s international network to 20 non-stop routes served by 23 international airlines.
New Zealand continues to be Western Australia’s third-largest international visitor market, with 78,000 visitors generating $166 million for the state’s economy in the year ending September 2025. The Auckland service will contribute nearly 40,000 additional seats each year while also creating a new one-stop connection between New York City and Perth, further strengthening access from one of WA’s priority visitor markets.
The Johannesburg route will likewise add almost 40,000 annual seats, making it easier for South African travellers to discover Perth, its spectacular coastline and the state’s diverse tourism experiences.
The expanded air connectivity is expected to provide a significant boost to Western Australia’s visitor economy, supporting local businesses and jobs across the tourism and hospitality sectors while reinforcing Perth’s growing reputation as a leading international gateway and world-class travel destination.
