In a strategic move aimed at expanding global air connectivity and strengthening outbound travel options from India, InterGlobe Air Transport has been appointed as the exclusive General Sales Agent (GSA) in India for Mexico’s flag carrier Aeromexico.

The appointment marks a significant step in Aeromexico’s efforts to deepen its footprint in the Indian market, while enhancing accessibility for both leisure and business travellers seeking connectivity to Latin America and beyond.

Strengthening access to a global network

As Mexico’s global airline, Aeromexico operates an extensive international network covering 48 domestic and 55 international destinations across 24 countries. Its route portfolio includes major global aviation hubs such as Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Through the partnership, Indian travellers and trade partners will gain streamlined access to Aeromexico’s global network, improving connectivity options between India and the Americas via key international transit points.

Comprehensive sales and service support in India

Under its GSA mandate, InterGlobe Air Transport will provide full-spectrum commercial and operational support for Aeromexico in India. This includes:

  • Passenger sales and management
  • Reservation and ticketing services
  • Dedicated contact centre operations
  • Trade and distribution support

A key focus of the partnership will be strengthening brand visibility in India’s rapidly growing outbound travel market and generating demand for travel to Mexico and onward destinations across North and South America.

The collaboration is expected to play a pivotal role in improving distribution efficiency and enhancing engagement with India’s travel trade ecosystem, including travel agencies, consolidators, and corporate travel planners.

Strategic focus on India’s outbound travel growth

India continues to be one of the fastest-growing outbound travel markets globally, with increasing demand for long-haul leisure travel, business travel, and destination-led experiences in the Americas and Europe.

Against this backdrop, Aeromexico’s entry strategy through a dedicated GSA structure reflects a targeted approach to market development, focusing on education, awareness building, and trade partnerships.

The airline’s expansion strategy aligns with growing interest among Indian travellers in destinations such as Mexico City, Cancun, and broader Latin American circuits, supported by improved global connectivity and evolving travel preferences.

Industry perspective on the partnership

Commenting on the appointment, JB Singh, Director at InterGlobe Air Transport, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration in expanding global travel choices for Indian consumers.

He noted that Aeromexico’s growing international footprint, particularly across the Americas, presents new opportunities for Indian travellers and businesses seeking diversified long-haul connectivity options.

Singh added that the focus of the partnership will be on building awareness, simplifying access to Aeromexico’s network, and stimulating demand across India’s outbound travel segment.

Expanding global airline partnerships in India

The appointment also reflects a broader trend of international airlines strengthening their commercial presence in India through specialised GSA partnerships. As outbound travel demand continues to diversify, carriers are increasingly relying on local expertise to navigate India’s complex and fast-growing aviation market.

By leveraging InterGlobe Air Transport’s established distribution network and market knowledge, Aeromexico aims to accelerate its brand penetration and strengthen engagement with both leisure and corporate travel segments.

Outlook: enhancing India–Latin America connectivity

The partnership is expected to contribute to broader efforts to improve air connectivity between India and Latin America, a region that remains under-penetrated despite rising tourism and business exchange potential.

With structured sales support and targeted market development initiatives, the collaboration is positioned to unlock new travel flows and strengthen bilateral tourism potential between India and Mexico.

As global aviation continues to recover and expand, such strategic partnerships are likely to play a critical role in shaping long-haul travel patterns and expanding India’s global air connectivity footprint.
