Macau records 3.44 million visitor arrivals during the month, with international arrivals rising 10.5%
Macau recorded 3.44 million visitor arrivals in April 2026, an increase of 11.3% year on year, even as arrivals from India declined 16.1% to 10,480, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The latest figures point to continued growth in Macau’s overall visitor economy, led by strong arrivals from mainland China and an increase in same-day travel.
Same-day visitors rose 19.4% year on year to 2.10 million, while overnight visitors increased 0.6% to 1.35 million. The average length of stay for all visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1.0 day, while overnight visitors stayed for an average of 2.3 days, unchanged from a year earlier.
Mainland China remains the largest market
Visitors from mainland China increased 13.1% to 2.41 million in April. Arrivals by travellers using the Individual Visit Scheme rose 16.1% to 1.24 million.
Macau also recorded growth from its other major Greater China markets. Visitors from Hong Kong increased 3.1% to 680,521, while arrivals from Taiwan rose 32.2% to 101,453.
International visitor arrivals reached 254,136 in April, up 10.5% compared with the same month last year.
Mixed performance across Asian markets
Southeast Asian markets produced varied results during the month. Visitors from the Philippines rose 19.6% to 51,544, while arrivals from Thailand surged 41.8% to 29,008. Singapore recorded a 9.2% increase to 8,614 visitors.
In contrast, arrivals from Indonesia fell 26.8% to 14,381, while Malaysia declined 7% to 13,748.
India also recorded a decline, with 10,480 Indian visitors travelling to Macau in April, down 16.1% from the corresponding month in 2025.
Elsewhere in Northeast Asia, arrivals from South Korea increased 9.1% to 40,603. From the long-haul US market, visitor numbers rose 13.9% to 15,299.
Visitor arrivals rise 13.1% in January-April
Macau’s positive April performance contributed to strong cumulative growth during the first four months of 2026.
The destination welcomed 14.66 million visitors between January and April, up 13.1% year on year. Same-day visitor arrivals increased 20.1% to 9.10 million, while overnight arrivals rose 3.3% to 5.55 million.
International visitors accounted for 1.01 million arrivals during the January-April period, representing a 10.7% year-on-year increase.
The cumulative average length of stay remained relatively short at 1.0 day, down 0.1 day from a year earlier. Overnight visitors recorded an average stay of 2.2 days, also 0.1 day shorter year on year.
The latest data indicates that Macau’s overall tourism recovery remains robust, supported by the mainland Chinese market and growing international demand. However, the contrasting performance across individual source markets highlights the continuing shifts in regional travel patterns as Macau seeks to broaden its international visitor base.
