For more than 100 years, this building has been admired for its Neo-Baroque architecture. Its transformation to a hotel is fitting as a gathering place for a new generation. Adding contemporary flair and design to the interior, the hotel opens as a chic and vibrant setting rooted in this building of history, blending the past, present, and future in an inspiring and playful ambiance.

London-based Universal Design Studio has designed 381 of the guest rooms and suites, along with grand staircases, some public areas and hallways.

The interiors firm has drawn inspiration from 19th century Danish painter Wilhelm Hammershoi. Rooms feature high ceilings, herringbone floors, gold accents and original window designs from 1912.

All rooms will have flatscreen TVs with streaming access, complimentary coffee machines, and minibars.

The hotel says it will prioritise “conscious luxury” by purchasing renewable energy, partnering with sustainable local brands and opening a 50 sqm Earth Suite designed with only sustainable materials. Danish fragrance brand Skandinavisk has also developed eco-friendly in-room amenities in refillable bottles to reduce single-use plastic across the property.

Also unique to the hotel is its genuine connection to the city’s architectural makeup and culture through its interior green spaces created to promote calm, wellbeing, and sociability along with a variety of dining outlets, including the traditional Rug Bakery (Rye Bakery in Danish).

Dining spaces include Public on the lower ground floor, which will only serve breakfast, and the all-day restaurant and bar Kontrast Brasserie.

T37 Bar, named after the property’s address Tietgensgade 37, offers light dishes and drinks to hotel guests and locals, while there’s also a Pool Bar on the rooftop.

The hotel also has a large art collection, valued at over US$2 million, curated by Sune Nordgren.

Other features include a rooftop swimming pool – which is warmed up with excess heat from the cooling system – a 24-hour gym and wellness area which includes a sauna, and a hidden rooftop garden with a bee hive, spices, herbs and vegetables used for dining.

The hotel’s courtyard, designed by Shamballa Jewels, is described as a “multi-dimensional social space” which encourages “local residents to convene for work, social activities and meetings”. The space will hold pop-up events, live music, and exhibitions.

The property will also have 2,300 sqm of events space across eight meeting rooms.
