Madhya Pradesh set a record in tourism footfalls in 2023, attracting 112.1 million visitors, three times more than the 34.1 million footfalls recorded in 2022. This remarkable achievement underscores the state’s growing appeal as a multifaceted destination offering a wide array of immersive experiences year-round.

Madhya Pradesh’s diverse tourism offerings include wildlife, nature, heritage, adventure, rural life, and spiritual tourism. Particularly popular are its rural and tribal tourism options, drawing visitors seeking deep spiritual and religious experiences. Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism & Culture and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, emphasized the state’s resurgence as a cultural and religious destination. He noted, “The record-breaking tourist arrivals are a testament to Madhya Pradesh’s immense appeal as a diverse and enriching travel destination. Our continuous emphasis on developing infrastructure, promoting religious tourism, and highlighting our distinctive cultural heritage has played a key role in drawing visitors from all over India and the world.”

The rise in tourism footfalls is also evident across the 100 tourism village locations spread across six cultural zones: Baghelkhand, Bundelkhand, Chambal, Malwa, Nimad, and Mahakaushal. These villages offer unique lodging options, local cultural experiences, and responsible souvenir projects that support local artisans. The Art & Craft Centres at Madla and Dhamma exemplify efforts to promote local handicrafts and handlooms, providing vital livelihoods to these communities.

Madhya Pradesh, known as ‘The Green Heart of Incredible India,’ boasts extensive forest cover and is celebrated as ‘The Tiger State of India.’ It is the only state in India where cheetahs have been reintroduced, thriving in Kuno National Park. The state is home to a rich variety of wildlife, with 11 National Parks, 6 Tiger Reserves, and 18 Wildlife Sanctuaries, making it a paradise for nature lovers.

Reputed as a safe destination, especially for solo women travelers, Madhya Pradesh is also enhancing luxury tourism. The state’s luxury resorts around national parks attract tourists seeking wellness and rejuvenation services, adding another dimension to its tourism appeal.

In conclusion, Madhya Pradesh’s record-breaking tourism footfalls in 2023 highlight the state’s successful strategy in developing and promoting a diverse range of tourism experiences. Its commitment to cultural, spiritual, and eco-friendly tourism positions Madhya Pradesh as a preferred destination for travelers seeking memorable and enriching journeys.
