Rajasthan Tourism Launches Summer Campaign to Promote Lesser-Known Destinations and Year-Round Travel

Rajasthan is intensifying efforts to position itself as a year-round tourism destination with the launch of a large-scale summer tourism campaign aimed at promoting lesser-explored regions, immersive cultural experiences, and off-season travel across the state.

The new initiative, titled “Rajasthan in Summer,” has been announced by the Rajasthan Tourism Department as part of a broader strategy to reshape perceptions of Rajasthan as primarily a winter tourism destination and encourage travellers to explore the state during the summer months.

The campaign will integrate with the state’s existing “Visit My State” and “Holiday in Rajasthan” tourism initiatives, targeting both domestic and international visitors through a combination of experiential storytelling, cultural promotion, and digital-first tourism marketing.

Tourism Department Focuses on Experience-Led Summer Travel

According to tourism officials, the campaign seeks to showcase a quieter, more authentic, and culturally immersive side of Rajasthan, moving beyond the traditional peak-season tourism model dominated by palace tourism and winter leisure travel.

Daleep Singh Rathore, Joint Director of Tourism, said the campaign is being implemented under the guidance of Diya Kumari to strengthen Rajasthan’s positioning as an all-season tourism destination.

Officials stated that the campaign strategy will focus heavily on digital storytelling, social media engagement, short-form video content, and experience-driven tourism narratives designed to resonate particularly with younger travellers seeking meaningful and culturally rich journeys.

Rather than relying on conventional tourism advertising, the initiative will use reels, cinematic destination films, and local storytelling formats to highlight Rajasthan’s heritage, landscapes, wildlife, cuisine, and community experiences.

Udaipur, Bundi and Barmer Among Key Focus Destinations

As part of the campaign, Rajasthan Tourism will promote different regions through carefully curated thematic experiences designed around local identity and seasonal appeal.

Udaipur will be positioned as a summer destination focused on lake tourism, sunrise and sunset experiences, cultural performances, and relaxed heritage hospitality.

Bundi, often regarded as one of Rajasthan’s hidden heritage gems, will be promoted for its stepwells, historic lanes, forts, murals, and architectural legacy.

Meanwhile, Jaipur and Jodhpur will continue to highlight palace stays, traditional cuisine, heritage hotels, evening tourism experiences, and curated cultural programmes.

The campaign will also place renewed emphasis on the Thar Desert region, particularly Barmer, promoting desert landscapes, rural tourism, solo travel opportunities, and immersive village-based experiences.

Tourism officials believe these destinations offer travellers slower-paced and more authentic alternatives to heavily crowded peak-season circuits.

Wildlife Tourism to Play Major Role in Summer Promotion

Wildlife tourism has also been identified as a key component of Rajasthan’s summer tourism strategy.

The department plans to promote enhanced wildlife sighting opportunities during the summer season at Ranthambore National Park, where animal visibility often improves around water bodies during hotter months.

Officials believe wildlife experiences can help sustain tourist arrivals during traditionally lean travel periods while diversifying Rajasthan’s tourism offerings beyond heritage and cultural attractions.

Industry observers note that wildlife tourism, eco-tourism, and experiential travel are becoming increasingly important drivers of domestic tourism growth in India, especially among younger travellers and international visitors seeking nature-based experiences.

Infrastructure, Heritage and Local Economy in Focus

The Rajasthan Tourism Department stated that the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader vision of strengthening tourism infrastructure, conserving heritage assets, and expanding tourism activity into emerging destinations beyond established tourism hubs.

Recent review meetings chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari have reportedly focused on regional tourism circuits, cultural programming, infrastructure upgrades, and long-term tourism development planning.

Officials added that the summer campaign will involve close collaboration with hospitality stakeholders, heritage hotel operators, travel companies, local artisans, and folk performers to stimulate tourism-linked economic activity across multiple regions.

The department expects the initiative to contribute to local employment generation, support long-stay tourism, and improve visibility for lesser-known cultural and rural destinations throughout Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Expands Its Appeal Beyond Peak Season Tourism

Tourism experts believe Rajasthan’s renewed emphasis on summer tourism reflects a broader shift within India’s travel industry toward year-round destination marketing and experience-led tourism development.

Traditionally viewed as a winter destination due to its desert climate, Rajasthan is increasingly repositioning itself around niche travel segments such as heritage tourism, cultural immersion, wildlife tourism, wellness travel, rural experiences, and slow travel.

By promoting off-season experiences and lesser-explored destinations, the state aims to distribute tourism traffic more evenly, reduce overcrowding in established hotspots, and create more sustainable tourism growth models.

Industry stakeholders note that digital storytelling and experiential branding are becoming increasingly critical in attracting modern travellers who prioritise authenticity, flexibility, local culture, and meaningful engagement over conventional sightseeing itineraries.

With the launch of the “Rajasthan in Summer” campaign, the state is seeking to redefine its tourism narrative and strengthen its standing as one of India’s most diverse and experience-rich travel destinations throughout the year.
