Switzerland´s flag-carrier airline Swiss has announced that it has completed its A340 cabin refurbishment program.

In mid-January, Swiss has concluded its refurbishment program for its A340-300 fleet. All five aircraft have received a new cabin with new inflight entertainment system. With this measure, Swiss hopes to deliver a better flight experience to its customers.

Even though the A340-300 fleet is not the youngest anymore with an average age of over 16 years, Swiss decided to install a totally new cabin into the long-haul aircraft. That underlines the airline´s ambition to use the aircraft for several years to come.

With the introduction of the Boeing 777, Swiss took a first step in modernizing and expanding its long-haul fleet. Now, the airline operates with 12 777s, five A340s and 14 A330-300, which are nearly 10 years old in average.

Swiss has installed the First, Business and Economy Class seats which already feature on the Boeing 777. Together with a new inflight entertainment system, the A340s are now connected to the internet. A new lighting concept has been installed as well.

SWISS Chief Commercial Officer Tamur Goudarzi Pour commented: “With the completion of our Airbus A340 cabin refurbishment programme we are further underlining our quality commitment, and now offer all our customers the same premium air travel experience, including inflight internet connectivity, on all our long-haul flights.”

The flag-carrier uses its fleet of A340s on routes between Zurich and Boston, Johannesburg and Shanghai. On 1 March 2020, the airline will open a new route between Zurich and Osaka in Japan. On this route, the A340 will be used, too.

Swiss International Air Lines is the airline of Switzerland and serves over 100 destinations in 44 countries around the world. The airline was founded in March 2002 and is part of the Lufthansa Group and the Star Alliance. Swiss carries around 19 million passengers on a 90 aircraft strong fleet. 29 Airbus A220s, two A319s, 19 A320s, nine A321s, 14 A330s, five A340s and 12 Boeing 777s belong to the fleet.

The main hub has been installed at Zurich Kloten Airport, however the airline also operates a secondary hub at Geneva Cointrin Airport.
