Alitalia on the corridor between Italy and the U.S.

An air corridor between the United States and Italy has been established! This plan is called “Covid Tested” as only people who have tested negative can board the plane. Travellers will need to undergo a test a maximum of 48 hours prior to departure, or they can take the test directly at the airport; this will allow travellers to avoid the quarantine at their arrival destination.

The first Alitalia plane coming from New York JFK landed this morning at 8.00 am at Rome Fiumicino Airport. These flights will begin taking passengers for the “test period” from 8 December 2020 until 15 February 2021.

The travel ban between the US and Italy is still in place and therefore these flights are only for essential travel currently. However, based on the initial stats, this could also include passengers that may require a shorter quarantine on return to Italy, and gradually, as the pandemic eases, capacity will be increased.
