Princess Cruises has launched a native app within ChatGPT, becoming the first global cruise line to introduce an AI-powered cruise-planning experience that allows travellers to search, compare and refine vacation options through conversational prompts.

The new service, announced on September 28, connects ChatGPT users with information and services from the Princess Cruises website, including cruise itineraries, destinations, pricing and availability.

According to Princess Cruises, the new app gives travellers access to more than 330 destinations across 17 ships, allowing them to search using everyday language rather than navigating traditional booking filters.

The development marks a further expansion of generative artificial intelligence into travel planning, moving beyond basic information searches toward conversational discovery and itinerary comparison.

Cruise planning through conversation

The Princess app allows users to describe the type of cruise they are looking for and refine the search through follow-up questions.

Travellers can ask for cruises based on destination, sailing date or voyage length, compare ships and itineraries, explore ports and shore excursions, and check current pricing and availability.

For example, a traveller could ask the app to identify seven-night cruises visiting Santorini in August 2027 or request help planning an Alaska cruise for the following summer. The conversation can then be refined with additional requirements, such as departure city, ports of call or specific experiences.

Princess says the system can also provide information about cruisetours, onboard experiences and vacation packages, allowing users to continue narrowing their choices within the same conversation.

The approach represents a change in how cruise products can be presented to prospective travellers. Instead of starting with a fixed search form, users can begin with a broader travel idea and progressively add preferences.

Connecting AI discovery with cruise booking

The new experience is designed to connect the discovery phase with Princess Cruises’ existing digital ecosystem.

The company says users can access real-time cruise pricing and availability through the AI experience, while continuing to refine their requirements conversationally.

Neena Vicente, Princess Cruises’ vice president of Digital Commerce and Experience, said the launch reflects a broader shift in travel discovery, with consumers increasingly using generative AI to evaluate choices and plan more complex trips.

The move is part of a wider evolution in online travel distribution as artificial intelligence increasingly becomes an interface between travellers and travel companies.

For cruise operators, the technology has particular potential because cruise holidays involve multiple variables, including destination, ship, sailing date, itinerary length, cabin category, excursions and pre- or post-cruise arrangements.

Partnership with Mobi and OpenAI

Princess developed the experience with technology company Mobi, whose CEO Andrew Boch described the launch as an early step in bringing cruise experiences directly into large language model platforms.

Princess Cruises also quoted Rosemary DeAragon, Head of Technology & Consumer Industries at OpenAI, describing the collaboration as an example of how AI platforms and travel brands can work together to make travel planning more conversational.

The announcement also makes clear that Princess Cruises is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OpenAI. The company describes the application as a Princess Cruises experience operating within ChatGPT.

First of its kind in global cruising

Princess Cruises describes itself as the first global cruise line to launch a native app in ChatGPT.

Carnival Corporation, Princess Cruises’ parent company, subsequently highlighted the development in its third-quarter 2026 corporate reporting, describing Princess as the first global cruise line to launch a native ChatGPT app and emphasizing its ability to provide real-time pricing and availability.

The claim is therefore supported by the companies’ official announcements. It should, however, be understood specifically as a claim concerning a native app in ChatGPT rather than a claim that Princess is the first cruise company anywhere to use artificial intelligence for customer service, recommendations or trip planning.

Expansion to other AI platforms planned

The ChatGPT integration is the initial phase of the initiative.

Princess Cruises says it intends to expand the experience to other compatible AI platforms in the future, subject to the availability and technical requirements of those platforms.

The development comes as Princess continues to operate its own established mobile ecosystem for cruise guests. Its existing Princess Cruises app provides functions including cruise management, dining reservations, check-in and other onboard services.

The new AI service is therefore positioned primarily as a discovery and planning interface, rather than a replacement for the company’s existing onboard mobile application.

What AI could mean for cruise planning

Cruise holidays can require considerable research because travellers must weigh destinations, ship characteristics, sailing dates, itinerary combinations and onboard experiences before making a booking.

Conversational AI offers a different way to approach that process. A traveller can start with a broad request — such as looking for an Alaska cruise next summer — and then progressively ask questions about departure ports, national parks, itinerary differences or ship features.

For consumers, the attraction is the ability to move between these questions without repeatedly restarting a search.

For cruise companies, the technology provides another digital entry point through which potential customers can discover their products.

The launch also highlights a broader shift in travel technology: artificial intelligence is increasingly being used not simply to answer questions, but to help travellers move from inspiration and research toward specific travel choices.

Princess Cruises’ ChatGPT app is an early example of that model entering the cruise sector, with the company planning to extend the approach to additional AI platforms as the technology develops.
