Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has announced the fourth edition of the Mandu Festival with great elan and pride to be held from 7th to 11th January 2023. This mega festival will witness a celebration of the historic heritage blended with the modern vibrancy of the culture of Mandu. The tent city will be available to book from 30th December for 90 days.
This Festival will be an eclectic mix of adventure activities, cultural activities, performing arts, workshops, art installations, nature trails & walks, poetry reading, food, architecture, music and much more. Offering something for everyone, the Mandu Festival will reverberate with an exuberant mix of activities weaving together traditional norms and old-world charm.
The festival will redefine the essence & bring the joy of establishing a new tourism hub in the state. Adorned with rich cultural heritage, the festival will bring alive conscious tourism combined with the love for the rich traditions and legacy.
The festival promises to rewind the beautiful love story that unfurled between Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati through storytelling sessions under the magnificent Baobabs trees. Each activity will engage and invite active participation combing fun & excitement alongside learning about the history of the city.
Celebrated artists will showcase their soulful music in a celebration of the confluence of art and history in Mandu through their performances. Hosting artists, local tribes, artisans and students, the carnival will showcase intriguing performances in music and theatre brought together under one roof at the Night Glow concerts hosted.
The festival will also host tours of local villages showcasing the prowess of rural tourism that Madhya Pradesh has to offer. Foodies can rejoice as the festival will serve an extensive array of authentic, traditional specialties of the Malwa region curated by gourmands.

“Mandu” popularly known as “Secret City of Joy” is located on a hill that rises 633 m above sea level and is endowed with very attractive natural scenery, which is best seen during the rainy season, Mandu provides various impressive views of lakes, waterfalls, and incredible monuments, to lure tourists to visit the region. A large number of buildings are scattered in a fort surrounded by a 45 km long parapet wall. Most of the city’s monuments are architectural gems and these were built in the duration of hardly 125 years, i.e., between 1401 A.D to 1526 A.D. Structures such as the massive Jami Mosque and Hoshang Shah’s tomb have also been an inspiration for the designing of the glorious Taj Mahal.
During monsoon, the hill range of Mandu is at its best in natural scenery. The entire area is covered in lush greenery with a number of torrents and brooks, gushing down into the narrow valley. The beauty of the place is further enhanced by numerous ponds and lakes dotted across. There are several places to visit in Mandu like palaces, mosques, Jama Masjid, and the strategic position of Mandu and its rich cultural heritage makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh. The incredible Afghan architecture and amazing baobab trees, originally from Africa, are important attractions that boost Tourism in Mandu. With its finest architectural magnificence and remarkable history, Mandu continues to fascinate its tourists with a rich and varied past that still witnesses the love and romance between Prince Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati.
Mandu along with Orchha is also shortlisted in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
